Media Wonders If Americans Will Have To Say ‘Goodbye’ To Meat

Could Rising Beef Prices Cause Americans To Change Their Diets?

As Americans witness the price of literally everything going up, your friendly neighborhood media outlet Bloomberg has helpfully wondered if we must give up beef going forward.

It may seem trite, but the ability to grab a steak or a burger is part of the American experience. We eat what we want, when we want. Call it a benefit of being the greatest nation on earth.

But inflation and trouble at meat processing plants may be conspiring to deprive us of one of our staple foods: beef.

Several Factors Involved

Bloomberg reports that meat processors like Tyson Foods Inc. and JBS USA report that they are making the smallest profit per head of cattle in years. Interestingly, Bloomberg refers to beef as a “luxury meat.”

Luxury meat? Not in the Midwest, at least, Bucko.

The reasons for the profit loss are common sense, as Bloomberg points out. Inflation is soaring on the one hand, and one reaction to that is, eventually, people look for cheaper options.

Higher costs and less demand for a product is a recipe for disaster.

And the war in Ukraine isn’t affecting just gas prices, which can be a huge cost especially for smaller farmers.

Another place where the pinch will be felt is with American farmers’ ability to feed those delicious beef cattle. With Russian grain exports cut off, rising feed prices will also contribute to climbing meat prices.

See the spiral beginning to take shape?

Left Has Villainized Meat As Part Of Global Warming Agenda

The skyrocketing cost of things like gas and meat is sure to have at least some cheering.

Since “climate change” warnings have ramped up, you’ve no doubt noticed headlines like the following:

  • Meat accounts for nearly 60% of all greenhouse gases from food (The Guardian)

  • Eat less meat: UN climate-change report calls for change to human diet (Nature)

  • Eating Less Red Meat Is Something Individuals Can Do to Help the Climate Crisis (Scientific American)

Examples are legion. And of course, everyone knows about the desire to cut out gasoline.

What a happy coincidence, then!

The Religion Of The Left

For Democrats, conflicts in Europe combined with inflation have provided them the perfect storm to proselytize their religion of climate change.

Eat less meat, save the planet.

Recently, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg suggested that Americans worried about gas prices should just run out and buy an electric car. To be clear, those who are having trouble affording the cost of gasoline may have trouble shelling out $40,000+ for an electric car.

Burn less gas, save the planet.

Of course, with an eye-popping 64% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck… well, you get the picture.

At any rate, it’s uncanny that these twin crises fit perfectly into the Democrats’ desires.

We’ll see if they follow former Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel’s adage to “Never let a crisis go to waste.”
