Media Declares Biden-Harris Person Of The Year, Trump Loser Of The Year

With Time Magazine declaring that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are Person of the Year, German media has said President Trump is “Loser of the Year.”

Time Magazine recently revealed their Person of the Year for 2020, naming former Vice President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris jointly. President Donald Trump, frontline health care workers and Dr Fauci, and the “movement for racial justice” were the other nominees – Biden was initially nominated by himself.

In a lengthy profile piece of the assumed president and vice president-elects, Charlotte Alter wrote that Biden’s pledge “to ‘restore the soul of the nation’ felt like antiquated hokum at a moment when Hurricane Trump was tearing through America, ripping through institutions, chewing up norms and spitting them out.”

“Biden and Harris share a faith that empathetic governance can restore the solidarity we’ve lost,” Alter continued, praising the pair, and claiming that “after four years of combat,” voters “craved decency, dignity, experience and competence.”

President Trump was Time’s Person of the Year in 2016 – and as a small consolation to losing this year, the German magazine Der Spiegel announced he had won their award. The award, however, was “Loser of the Year.”

Der Spiegel’s Washington bureau chief Roland Nelles, along with Ralf Neukirch, said that President Trump is “a man who… was never concerned with the common good, but always with one thing – himself.”

“Nothing is normal under Trump,” the article continued. “He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising. Trump’s presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity.”

Writing in Fox News, Edmund de Marche argued that Time’s decision to “announce Biden and Harris for its top honor will likely rankle Trump supporters who will likely see the move as the latest example of how mainstream media will embrace the Biden administration for the next four years.”

And despite allegedly losing the election, President Trump has managed to pull off a number of serious, significant achievements this year, which would have had any normal President win the award easily.

“Any other US President who brokered four peace deals between Israel and Arab states in as many months would be the hands-down favourite for a Nobel Peace Prize,” tweeted Eylon Levy.

For anyone who may have been sceptical of the President’s own role, Levy argued that any “Israeli prime minister who struck four peace deals with Arab states in four months would be such a shoo-in for a Nobel Peace Prize that nominations would close early.”

The derision from the German media is to be expected, with Europeans generally having a low opinion of President Trump. But the ignoring of multiple successful peace deals in the Middle East would surely disqualify the President from being named “Loser of the Year.”

Of course, that assumes that the media is far, unbalanced, and unbiased.
