McCarthy Promises To Remove Ilhan Omar From Foreign Affairs Committee If GOP Wins The House

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi to remove Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee, vowing to do so himself if the GOP wins back the chamber in 2022.
McCarthy (R-CA) pressed Pelosi to take action on Representative Omar for a lengthy history of making anti-Semitic comments.
“I think Nancy Pelosi should remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs committee,” he said during an interview with Fox & Friends.
McCarthy pointed out that Representative Omar (D-MN) has, on “numerous occasions,” made controversial remarks against America and her ally, Israel.
“I will promise you this,” the GOP leader added. “If we are fortunate enough to have the majority, Omar would not be serving on Foreign Affairs, or anybody that has an anti-Semitic, anti-American view.”

Pelosi Won’t Remove Ilhan Omar
McCarthy’s remarks come amidst a heap of controversy surrounding far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar.
In comments shared on social media last week, the ‘Squad’ member seemed to equate actions taken by the United States and Israel to those perpetrated by the Taliban and Hamas.
“We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity,” she tweeted. “We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.”

Omar would later insist that she was speaking specifically about incidents regarding ICC (International Criminal Court) cases and was “in no way equating terrorist organizations with democratic countries with well-established judicial systems.”
A trio of House Republicans wasn’t satisfied, however, introducing a resolution earlier this week seeking to censure Omar and other members of the ‘Squad’ for comments backing “the actions of a recognized terrorist organization.”
Pelosi though, was satisfied, saying Omar’s clarification was acceptable and praising her as “a valued member of our caucus.”

Pelosi Embracing Squad Member Omar
Pelosi has defended her colleague in the past by saying she didn’t really mean to offend anyone.
“I feel confident her words were not based in an antisemitic attitude, but that she didn’t have a full appreciation of how they landed on other people where these words have a history and cultural impact that might have been unknown to her,” she said in March of 2019.

Even prior to her comments seemingly equating the U.S. and Israel to terrorist organizations, Omar had a rich history of anti-Semitic comments including:
- Tweeting “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”
- Said that Jewish lawmakers “have allegiance to a foreign country” regarding their support for Israel.
- Tweeting that US support for Israel was “all about the Benjamins” and when she was asked what she meant, she responded “AIPAC!”
- Shared a cartoon that even her Democrat colleagues called out as “vile” and “anti-Semitic.”
- She compared Israel to terrorist-funding Iran and said they are not a democracy.
- She defended and promoted the anti-Semitic BDS movement.
Making matters worse in the present, Omar last week also retweeted a video filmed by the International Solidarity Movement, a Palestinian organization that was probed by the FBI for ties to terrorism.

“In 2010, ISM was deemed by the Anti-defamation League (ADL) as one of the top 10 anti-Israel organizations in the country,” Fox News reported.
“The FBI has also investigated ISM for possible links to terrorists, but FBI documents reported in 2020 by the Intercept did not detail any charges levied,” they add.
Even though McCarthy has threatened to remove Ilhan Omar if Republicans take back the House, he has “stopped short of a direct threat to force a vote” on the resolution to censure the ‘Squad’ member, according to Politico.
Will McCarthy’s threat prove to be a hollow one?
