Reuters reported that Joshua Docter, 21, of Holland, Michigan was charged on Monday by the office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel with threatening terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime. Each of these carry a sentence of up to twenty years in prison if he is convicted.

“Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has charged a Holland man with crimes for making death threats against President Joe Biden, U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer,” Nessel’s office said in a statement.

“In those posts, Docter stated he would use a gun to shoot and kill the elected officials and would ‘be the catalyst’ for a new American revolution,” the statement added. “Docter also had information on how to make a bomb and where to find the necessary materials on his smart phone.”

Docter Turns Himself In

Docter turned himself in on Monday and faced a judge the next day, and a lawyer for him has not been identified at this time. He was caught by the FBI after the bureau received a tip that he had made threats on the social media site iFunny, and the case was later taken over by Michigan State Police.

“Threatening elected officials is against the law and my office will prosecute those who attempt to intimidate or terrorize our state and federal leaders,” Nessel added in a statement of her own, according to WHTC.

“I appreciate the thorough investigative work by the FBI and Michigan State Police on this case, and I consider it another excellent example of showcasing the dedication that those working in law enforcement have to protecting the public,” she continued.

We are in process of evaluating them and working with legal counsel to consider our next steps. We respectfully ask for privacy at this most difficult time.”
