GOP Utilizes Ellison Abuse Allegations in New Attack Ad

Keith Ellison GOP ad

For as much as Democrats like to pretend their party is the one that champions women, it’s only been Republicans speaking out against an accused abuser in their party. DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison is under fire as allegations of physical and psychological abuse against a former girlfriend were made public this month by her son. The alleged victim, Karen Monahan, has since confirmed the accusations, and spoken out publicly on television.

Surprisingly, the Democrat establishment doesn’t seem to care when one of their own is an alleged foot-soldier in the “war on women.” The DNC issued an emotionless statement that they’d be “looking into” the allegations, which I believe translates to “ignore them until people forget about them.”

The Democrats in Minnesota didn’t care much about the allegations either, as Ellison won his primary last Tuesday which puts him in the running to become the State’s next Attorney General.

Earlier today, the Congressional Leadership Fund decided to draw more attention to the damning allegations, releasing a series of attack ads highlighting them. “Disturbing allegation of domestic violence against Keith Ellison,” says a narrator in the ad.  “Now the National Organization for Women is calling for him to end his campaign but Angie Craig is standing by Keith Ellison. Backing Ellison instead of believing his victim? Angie Craig should be ashamed,” the narrator concludes before playing a clip of Monahan’s accusations. Annie Craig is a Democrat running for Congress in Minnesota.

Surprisingly, even a woman like Annie hasn’t denounced Ellison’s alleged abuse. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s Democratic Farmer Labor Party (of which Ellison is a part of) endorsed Ellison for Attorney General – after the abuse allegations were publicized.

Will any Democrats speak out against Ellison? Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager (Robby Mook) said that Democrats shouldn’t be campaigning with Ellison until he’s cleared of the allegations, but even that’s barely a denunciation.

Prior to these abuse allegations, Ellison has been accused of holding anti-Semitic views and has been criticized for his past association with radical hate preacher Louis Farrakhan. He’s also floated 9/11 conspiracy theories in the past, seeming to argue that 9/11 was orchestrated to inflame America’s tensions against Muslims.

What a candidate.
