The deputy-chair of the Democratic National Committee, Rep. Keith Ellison, has been accused of domestic violence by the son of a woman he had engaged in a long-term relationship with.
The woman has since backed up her son’s claims by saying, “You know you did that to me.”
Austin Monahan, whose mother Karen Monahan is the alleged victim, posted on social media that she had “come out of pure hell after getting out of her relationship” with the prominent Democrat lawmaker.
Austin claims that he stumbled onto archived text messages and images accidentally while using his mother’s computer.
In those files was a roughly two-minute video which “showed Keith Ellison dragging my mama off the bed by her feet, screaming and calling her a ‘f***ing b****’ and telling her to get the f*** out of his house.”
This post was brought to my attention because I was tagged in this post. Domestic Violence is never ok. The incidents described are troubling. I call on Keith Ellison to answer these allegations.https://t.co/CQ1LSVfZqf

Ellison has since issued a brief statement denying the allegations.
“Karen and I were in a long-term relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being,” he explained. “This video does not exist because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.”
Wow. These are some very serious abuse allegations against Congressman Keith Ellison (D). Ellison is also the Deputy Chair of the DNC. https://t.co/QMer1u2WfK

Monahan however, has contradicted that denial, turning this into a troubling he said/she said allegation unless video does indeed surface.
“Every statement he made was true,” she said of her son’s claims. “(Keith Ellison), you know you did that to me.”
What my son said is true. Every statement he made was true.@keithellison, you know you did that to me. I have given every opportunity to get help and heal. Even now, u r willing to say my son is lying and have me continue to leak more text and info just so others will believe him

In April, Ellison ironically told a crowd at the Progressive Change Campaign Committee National Candidate Training forum that women were being harmed – even dying – because Republicans were winning elections. (RELATED: DNC Vice Chair Says Women Are Dying Because Democrats Aren’t Being Elected).
“Did you know that in Missouri and in Texas and maybe other places maternal mortality has risen?” he asked. “Women are dying because we are losing elections. We don’t have the right to lose a damn election. We have to win.”
In reality, they’re being harmed just by being close to Ellison.
Ellison is scheduled to square off against other candidates in a Tuesday primary for attorney general.
His opponents are demanding a response to the story with one even suggesting any materials pertaining to the alleged abuse should be turned over to law enforcement.
