Joy Reid: Trump’s 4th of July Parade Meant to Threaten Americans

MSNBC host Joy Reid claims that President Trump’s 4th of July parade is meant to ‘threaten’ fellow Americans because he “styles himself a tyrant.”

Reid made the wild assertion during an appearance on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House earlier this week.

The President bragged of America’s military might on social media, announcing a “big 4th of July in D.C. ‘Salute to America.'”

“The Pentagon & our great Military Leaders are thrilled to be doing this & showing to the American people, among other things, the strongest and most advanced Military anywhere in the World,” he declared.

Reid’s Conspiracy Theory

This, Reid interpreted, is an example of a mad dictator trying to intimidate his own people.

“The message is a threat, but it’s always a threat when you roll out your military,” she said. ” But it’s to whom is the threat, and I suspect that the threat is to his fellow Americans.”

“I hate to say that, but I think that Donald Trump styles himself a tyrant,” Reid added, “not a defeater of tyrants.”

Watch that clip again. What’s remarkable isn’t necessarily Reid’s comments – everyone knows she’s a bit adrift from reality. What’s remarkable is that she’s saying something completely unhinged, completely conspiratorial in nature, and nobody on the panel is pushing back.

In fact, you can see former RNC chair Michael Steele, disgustingly shaking his head in agreement with Reid.

Bastille Day

Trump’s parade featuring the military was inspired by Bastille Day celebrations during his visit to France in 2017.

The President was so enamored with the display that he “was frequently on his feet and applauding as the French military showcased its troops, tanks and fighter jets, including many US-made planes,” the Guardian reported.

Rather than accepting that Trump might want a Fourth of July celebration to proudly display American strength, Reid said the Bastille Day explanation actually proves he’s a tyrant.

“What Bastille Day represents is the victory over tyrannical rule, over the king, and over the attempt for the king to return,” Reid explained prior to saying Trump, like North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, is trying to celebrate victory over democracies.

“What is the message Donald Trump is trying to send by rolling tanks down Constitution Avenue? Who is that message to? It’s certainly not to tyrants because he likes tyrants, he loves tyrants. It’s not to Putin, it’s not to Kim Jong-Un, not to the Saudis. Is it to our friends, to Western democracies who he doesn’t particularly like, or is it to us? Is it to the resistance in this country? ‘I got tanks. I have this military armada.'”

We’re fairly confident tanks won’t be required to squash a resistance that wears vagina costumes and pink hats.

Patriotic Parades Weren’t Always Evil

There was a time in this country when military parades were celebrated. In fact, it was perfectly acceptable in 2014, when the President was Barack Obama.

“Sen. Charles Schumer is appealing to the Department of Defense for approval of a grand event up the canyon of heroes that would include military brass, color guards, military bands, and flyovers,” a reporter explains in the above clip. “DOD officials say its certainly not unprecedented.”

It’s not unprecedented. It’s just that now that President Trump is in the White House, it is an idea only a tyrant could come up with.
