MSNBC host Joe Scarborough took aim at supporters of Governor Ron DeSantis, suggesting that anyone who falls for his defense of Florida’s COVID response is a “slack-jawed yokel.”
Scarborough was responding to an ongoing feud between DeSantis and the Biden administration.

The White House, having turned a blind eye to New York’s disastrous efforts in combatting the pandemic over the past year-and-half, has singled out the Sunshine State and an uptick in COVID cases there recently, demanding that DeSantis “get out of the way.”
The governor didn’t waste any time in firing back.
“Why don’t you do your job? Why don’t you get this border secure?” DeSantis said. “And until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you.”

Joe Scarborough Calls DeSantis Supporters ‘Slack-Jawed Yokels’
Joe Scarborough, for whatever reason, picked a fight with DeSantis and anyone that, in his view, is unintelligent enough to believe what the Florida Republican is saying.
Think about that for a minute – in an intellectual battle, Scarborough took up arms with President Biden over Ron DeSantis.
Responding to a video of DeSantis eviscerating the White House, the MSNBC host demanded to know who his audience was.
“I mean, who, who was he talking to? Cletus the slack-jawed yokel,” Scarborough sneered. “Like who, who was really fooled by that?”
Scarborough would later note on social media that his condescending insult was a reference to “Cletus the slack-jawed yokel,” a side character featured on “The Simpsons.”

The Only ‘Yokel’ Here Is Joe
Scarborough’s ‘slack-jawed yokel’ insult is reminiscent of other media personalities who look down on conservatives despite not having the intellectual credentials to do so.
But perhaps interestingly, because it encompasses millions of Florida Republicans who voted for DeSantis, it would also include many of Scarborough’s own voters.

‘Morning Joe’ served four terms in Congress from Florida’s First Congressional District. Undoubtedly, many, if not most, of those voters who supported him are now DeSantis voters.
Does anyone remember CNN host Don Lemon and a group of liberal panelists mocking supporters of President Trump as “rubes” not too long ago?
Oddly enough, however, Scarborough actually argued at one point on his show exactly what DeSantis had been saying in regards to COVID being spread due to the border crisis.

DeSantis said, for example, that Biden has “imported more virus from around the world by having a wide-open southern border – you have hundreds of thousands of people pouring across every month.”
Scarborough must have fallen for it like a ‘slack-jawed yokel’ because here he is telling Senator Dick Durbin that “there’s a growing health care crisis on the border” with COVID “spreading like wildfire there.”

And speaking of slack-jawed yokel’s – Wasn’t it Scarborough who accused Republicans during the pandemic of wanting to “euthanize” senior citizens when in reality it was New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who was doing that?
It was also the slack-jawed yokel Scarborough who shared a fake tweet last year suggesting President Trump said he wanted any sitting President who saw the stock market plunge to be “loaded into a very big cannon and Shot into the sun at TREMENDOUS SPEED!”

I mean, what an absolute rube.
The slack-jawed Scarborough went on to suggest DeSantis, by giving parents and schoolchildren the option of wearing masks rather than dictating it through a mandate by the schools, was actually a socialist.
“But ol’ Ron, he says no. The power of the state, socialism rules, we’re going to decide everything from 1,000 miles away,” Scarborough claimed.

“It’s no more conservative, actually, than good ol’ Ron, Socialist Ron, saying, hey, if you were a business, you have no control over how you keep your business safe,” he added.
“I will ban you from taking safety precautions that you think will keep people inside your business safe and that you think will help your bottom line,” Scarborough continued. “Big Republicanism? I guess so. Sounds like socialism to me.”

What it sounds like, Joe, is that Mika isn’t giving her slack-jawed yokel his proper medications in the morning.
In reality, a place Scarborough hasn’t resided in recent years, DeSantis is barring schools from implementing mask mandates. Mandates.
DeSantis’s office has explained that the masking policy in Florida does, in fact, allow kids to wear masks in schools because they and their parents are given the choice.
Any slack-jawed yokel can understand that.
