Jimmy Carter told Maureen Dowd of the New York Times that the media has been harder on Donald Trump than any other president “in recent memory” (and at 93-years-old, the guy has been around for a while).
His memory serves him correct, too. As we’ve reported numerous times before, all the data thus far shows that the media is overwhelmingly biased against Trump. A Harvard study of Trump’s first 100 days in office found that 93 percent of the mainstream media’s coverage was negative – compared to only 41 percent for Obama, 57 percent for George W. Bush, and 60 percent for Bill Clinton.
And that was just the first 100 days! Measured out to mid-September by the Media Research Center, 91 percent of coverage is still negative.
Carter’s interview with Dowd addressed a large number of topics, including media bias, North Korea, and Russia meddling in the election.
Among Carter’s most surprising admissions was the fact that he voted for Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in their heated primary contest. Carter also doesn’t believe the media’s narrative about Russia tipping the election to Trump. The former president was asked, “Did the Russians purloin the election from Hillary?” “I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes — or any votes,” he responded.
Carter also took a shot at Obama, saying, “He made some very wonderful statements, in my opinion, when he first got in office, and then he reneged on that.”
You can say that again, Jimmy!
And here’s the biggest kicker: Carter sides with Trump on the issue of the National Anthem and the NFL. “I think they ought to find a different way to object, to demonstrate. I would rather see all the players stand during the American anthem.”
There you have it: Jimmy Carter stood with Donald Trump, ripped on media bias, criticized Obama, and said that NFL players should stand for the National Anthem.
I think my opinion of Jimmy Carter is beginning to change.
