Jeffrey Toobin Returns To CNN After Being Caught Masturbating During Zoom Meeting

Jeffrey Toobin interview

On Thursday, CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin returned to his old television home, months after he took leave from the cable news outlet after being caught masturbating during a Zoom meeting with colleagues at the New Yorker.

The New Yorker outright fired Toobin. Not surprisingly, that incident was the first thing Toobin was asked about during his CNN appearance, and made for a bit of uncomfortable viewing.

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota Runs Down Toobin’s Masturbation Incident From October

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota said to Toobin, “In October, you were on a Zoom call with your colleagues from the New Yorker magazine.”

“Everyone took a break for several minutes, during which time you were caught masturbating on camera,” Camerota said. “You were subsequently fired from that job, after 27 years of working there.”

“And you, since then, have been on leave from CNN,” she added.

“Do I have all that right?” Camerota asked.

Toobin replied, “You got it all right, sad to say.”

Toobin Admits ‘This Was Deeply Moronic And Indefensible’

Camerota then said point blank, “Let’s start there. To quote Jay Leno, ‘What the hell were you thinking?”

Toobin let it all out, so to speak.

“Well, obviously, I wasn’t thinking very well or very much,” Toobin said. “And it was something that was inexplicable to me.”

He continued, “I think one point and I wouldn’t exactly say in my defense, because nothing is really in my defense and I didn’t think I was on the call. I didn’t think other people could see me.”

Camerota asked, ” You thought that you had turned off your camera?”

“Correct,” Toobin replied. “I thought that I had turned off the zoom call.”

“Now, that’s not a defense,” Toobin admited. “This was deeply moronic and indefensible.”

Toobin Sought Help After His Controversy

Toobin then described his anguish after the embarrassing incident.

“But that is part of the story,” Toobin said. “I have spent the seven subsequent months, miserable months in my life, I can certainly confess, trying to be a better person.”

The CNN analyst said he is seeking help.

“I’m in therapy, trying to do some public service, working in a food bank, which I’m certainly going to continue to do, working on a new book about the Oklahoma City bombing,” Toobin explained.

He added, “I am trying to become the kind of person that people can trust again.”
