James Mattis Is Caught Suggesting Potential Military Coup Against Trump

Trump Mattis

According to the new book on The Trump administration by the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward, former Defense Secretary James Mattis reportedly once told a top United States intelligence official that “collective action” might be needed to thwart President Donald Trump’s “dangerous” actions.

Woodward’s book on the Trump administration “Rage” claims that in 2017, Mattis was concerned about Trump’s leadership during a standoff with North Korea over its missile tests.

Gen. Mattis: ‘Collective action” might need to be taken against Trump’

The Washington Post shared excerpts, reporting on Wednesday that, “Mattis quietly went to Washington National Cathedral to pray about his concern for the nation’s fate under Trump’s command and, according to Woodward, told Coats, ‘There may come a time when we have to take collective action’ since Trump is ‘dangerous. He’s unfit.”

WaPo continued, “In a separate conversation recounted by Woodward, Mattis told Coats, ‘The president has no moral compass,’ to which the director of national intelligence replied: ‘True. To him, a lie is not a lie. It’s just what he thinks. He doesn’t know the difference between the truth and a lie.”

The fact that Mattis’s reportedly said to Coats that “collective action” might need to be taken against Trump lit up social media Wednesday, with some saying the exchange was basically “spit-balling a presidential coup.”

The larger context of Mattis’s discussion with Coats remains unclear. Still Mattis has been increasingly critical of his former White House boss.

Mattis has gone after Trump over disagreements on both foreign domestic affairs since leaving the administration in January 2019.

President Trump takes on ‘military-industrial-complex’

Trump received a lot of media heat this week when he took on what President Dwight Eisenhower once called the “military-industrial-complex.” Trump did this when he said, “I’m not saying the military’s in love with me…the soldiers are, the top people in the Pentagon aren’t because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those companies that make the bombs & make the planes & make everything else stay happy.”

The President’s oldest son, Don Jr., tweeted on Monday, “If you want to end the endless wars immediately put a permanent moratorium on retired General’s serving on the boards of defense contractors. We would be out of Afghanistan by Wednesday.”
