Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Thomas Homan has issued a warning to illegal immigrants – “You need to be worried.”
“If you are in this country illegally, and you committed a crime by entering this country, you should be uncomfortable, you should look over your shoulder, and you need to be worried,” Homan told a panel during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing.
Homan took it a step further, acknowledging something the Obama Administration never would: Being in the country illegally is itself a crime.
“We’ll issue detainers to anybody in the country illegally,” he explained.
While priority will be given to those having committed other crimes, ICE will also “put detainers on people that have not been convicted of a crime.”
As they should.
Via the Washington Examiner:
In a blunt warning to all 11 million undocumented immigrants, the acting chief of ICE said that anybody who cross the border illegally is subject to deportation.
“If you are in this country illegally, and you committed a crime by entering this country, you should be uncomfortable, you should should look over your shoulder, and you need to be worried,” said Thomas D. Homan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“No population is off the table,” he added in a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing. “We’ll issue detainers to anybody in the country illegally,” he said. “Our priorities are criminals first, but if you’re asking me if we are going to put detainers on people that have not been convicted of a crime, yes we will,” he added referring to the first step in deportation.
Just days after his inauguration, President Trump signed an executive order to increase the number of immigration officers, a move that shows he is serious about fixing the illegal immigrant problem.
Homan explained that the Obama Administration did not let ICE arrest non-criminal illegals in the past, something he considers an important step.
“If we wait for them to violate yet another law against the citizens of this country, it’s late,” Homan said. “We shouldn’t wait.”
We’ve been waiting for far too long.
