After forty years of playing Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford is preparing to say goodbye to the character with the movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which comes out next week. In a new interview, Ford could not help but become emotional as he reflected on the Indiana Jones movies and thanked fans for their support.

Ford Tears Up

“I think the thing that I most admire about them is the depth and subtlety of the emotion, and the importance of emotion in these films,” Ford said, according to Fox News.

“As this last one concerns age and frailty and changing nature of life, it was especially compelling to me because I am of that age and I wanted it to feel real for the audience,” he continued. “I wanted them to see the complexity of that experience with someone they’ve spent 40 years with.”

Ford, 81, then became visibly emotional as he addressed fans directly.

“And I must say to you thank you sincerely,” he stated with tears in his eyes. “It means the world to me.”

Ford Becomes Emotional At Cannes Film Festival

Ford also became emotional at the Cannes Film Festival last month when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny received a standing ovation that lasted for over five minutes upon its conclusion. Ford was then awarded with a surprise Palme d’Or by Cannes Festival Director Thierry Frémaux, which is the highest award given at the festival.

“I’m very moved by this,” Ford said. “They say when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes. A great part of my life, but not all of my life. My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful.”

“I was just trying to keep myself composed,” he recently told People Magazine of receiving this honor. “There was very generous applause from the crowd [and] it was positive and humbling and nice.”

Ford Has No Plans To Retire

Ford may be in his 80s, but he’s still as busy as ever in the crazy world of Hollywood. He has two movies that are currently in production, with the first being Thunderbolts and the second being Captain America: Brave New World.

On top of that, Ford is also starring in two hit shows, the first being the “Yellowstone” prequel “1923,” and the second being the Apple TV + show “Shrinking.” Each of these shows have been renewed for second seasons, which will keep Ford especially busy in the months to come.

“I’ve been working pretty much back-to-back, which is not what I normally do,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know how it happened. But it happened.”

“I love it. I love the challenge and the process of making a movie. I feel at home. It’s what I’ve spent my life doing,” he continued. “I’m here to sell a movie. I don’t want to reinvent myself. I just want to work.”

Ford is clearly still getting a lot of joy from working, so we applaud him for showing the world that age really is just a number. If you love Ford as much as we do, be sure to check out the new Indiana Jones movie when it hits theaters on June 30!
