Colin Kaepernick might be out of a job, but his refusal to stand during the National Anthem has “earned” him the title of GQ’s 2017 “Citizen of the Year.”

Well, if GQ was looking to take the most divisive stance possible then they sure hit the nail on the head.
But choosing to portray Kaepernick as a racist left-wing militant isn’t even the most questionable thing GQ did here. In their announcement declaring Kaepernick “Citizen of the Year,” GQ’s editors explain that Kaepernick wanted to work with the magazine to “reclaim the narrative of his protest.” However, in effort to “reclaim the narrative,” GQ spoke with “a ten-person team of [Kaepernick’s] closest confidants,” including Kaepernick’s girlfriend, radio/TV personality Nessa, and anti-Trump Women’s March organizer Linda Sarsour.
Besides being an outspoken SJW, Nessa is also a blatant racist. According to former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis, a racist tweet Nessa directed at him – in which she implied that Lewis was an Uncle Tom – cost Kaepernick a job with the Baltimore Ravens.
Furthermore, in her statement to GQ for the editorial piece on Kaepernick’s “activism,” Nessa literally encourages people to argue about race in effort to enlighten their “ignorant” and “prejudiced” relatives. “As long as you’re educated and you have the facts, get into those discussions about race. Have those conversations. I don’t care how intense they get,” she says. “You need to let Uncle Whoever and Auntie Whoever, who might feel a certain way, who might be racist or prejudiced, know that it’s not right and it’s not okay. Their beliefs are never based on facts. It’s always opinions or lies or misinformation, and that is where you can make a difference—by helping them get educated.” (Emphasis mine.)
Because, according to the left, “difference of opinion” and “ignorance” are one in the same.
Linda Sarsour, meanwhile, is an outspoken supporter of Sharia Law who has family ties to terrorists. And according to her, Kaepernick is an “American hero.” I wonder if she’d say the same about the men and women who died so that Kaepernick could have the right to protest in the first place?
Naming Kaepernick “Citizen of the Year” is a slap in the face to anyone who’s ever made a measurable difference in our country. Kaepernick isn’t another Martin Luther King Jr. or even another Malcom X, despite the media’s attempts to portray him as such. He’s just an ex-quarterback who made the decision to take a knee during the National Anthem – and it cost him his job.
