Senator Elizabeth Warren took a shot at Trey Gowdy for allegedly retiring to earn a “fat lobbyist paycheck,” but the former Rep. fired back, suggesting she’d been drinking.
Warren referenced a Daily Caller article that laid out what was next in Gowdy’s career, in which he revealed a return to the South Carolina-based law and lobbying firm where he previously worked. He will focus on white-collar criminal defense and independent government investigations.
“Gowdy just wanted a fat lobbyist paycheck,” Warren blasted. “That should be illegal.”
Why she felt the need to attack a now-former member of Congress is anybody’s guess. Perhaps it’s because Gowdy has been unceasingly popular with conservatives, and by going after him Warren assumed it would bolster her 2020 campaign?
Whatever her motivations, the strike on Gowdy almost immediately backfired.

Gowdy responded to Warren by noting he would not be engaging in lobbying, “not now … or ever.”
He then suggested the Massachusetts Senator had been dipping into grandpa’s cough medicine when he made the announcement about his next career move.

Gowdy was referencing Warren’s super-awkward Instagram live chat session with supporters in which she tried her damndest to appear down to Earth with the common folk by cracking open a beer and hanging with her “sweetie,” husband Bruce.

Indeed, Gowdy is simply returning to the law firm at which he worked in 1994 before leaving to join the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He will join the investigations team which focuses on internal and government investigations and corporate compliance.
Conservatives will miss Gowdy
Though Gowdy has had a mixed bag of results during his tenure in the House, his quick wit and pointed barbs at incompetent Democrats like Warren will be sorely missed.
In an exit interview of sorts on Fox News, Gowdy slammed former FBI director James Comey as a “political flunky” and “an amnesiac with incredible hubris” who is only out to protect himself.
Comey was one of Gowdy’s favorite punching bags over the past couple of years, most famously needing all of 71 seconds to completely blow apart the FBI’s rationale for exonerating Hillary Clinton and her private email server scandal.
Here he is grilling former FBI official and Clinton toady, Peter Strzok:
“I don’t give a damn what you appreciate Agent Strzok,” Gowdy said to Strzok. “I don’t appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations during 2016.”
He also engaged in top-notch public interrogations of former IRS official Lois Lerner and former CIA Director John Brennan.
