Gold Star Father: Biden ‘Talked More About His Son Than My Son’

Gold Star Father Says That In Meeting With Biden, He ‘Talked More About His Son Than My Son’

After meeting with President Joe Biden, two Gold Star fathers of U.S. Marines killed during the terrorist bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, spoke out about their experiences.

Mark Schmitz, the father of Marine Jared Schmitz, and Darin Hoover, the father of Marine Darin Taylor Hoover Jr. recently appeared on Sean Hannity’s program on Fox News.

Gold Star Father: We Didn’t Want Biden ‘Anywhere Near Us’

Schmitz met with Biden. Hoover had a different attitude, telling Hannity, “we didn’t want [Biden] anywhere near us,” Fox News reported.

Schmitz appeared to take offense that the president talked more about his late son, Beau Biden, than he did Jared Schmitz.

“Initially, I wasn’t going to meet with him,” Schmitz said. “But then I felt I owed it to my son to at least have some words with him about how I felt – and it didn’t go well.”

Schmitz said it was not a pleasant meeting.

“He talked a bit more about his own son than he did my son, and that didn’t sit well with me,” he added.

Biden’s son Beau served in the military, but was not killed in combat.

Hoover gave a reason why he chose not to meet with Biden. It had to with the president’s behavior at Dover Air Force Base where he and first lady solemnly watched the caskets of the 13 fallen service members.

Hoover said it was because Biden wouldn’t stop looking at his watch, something Biden was widely criticized for.

“That didn’t happen just once,” Hoover said. “It happened on every single one that came out of that airplane. It happened on every single one of them.”

“They would release the salute, and he would look down at his watch on every last one, all 13, he looked down at his watch,” Hoover said.

Hoover said that when he was asked if his family wanted to meet with President Biden, he replied, “We said, ‘absolutely not.’ We didn’t want to deal with him. We didn’t want him anywhere near us. We, as a family, decided that that was the way it was going to be.”
