Glenn Greenwald Calls Media Coverage Of January 6 And Protesting Parents ‘Political Persecution’

On Wednesday, progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald described how the media has covered the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, parents who protest at school board meetings, and unvaccinated Americans as “political persecution.”

Greenwald made his comments on “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast.

Host Megyn Kelly and Greenwald discussed how news outlets bend media narratives.

Kelly noted how news outlet tried to frame the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick as being “murdered by the Trump mob, even when they knew it wasn’t true.”

“The misreporting and the unwillingness to bend, it’s all part of the same thing,” Kelly said.

Kelly continued, “Narratives, the commitment, the desire to bring down Trump or anyone associated with him.”

She added, “‘How dare you compare [January 6] to 9/11’ is somehow controversial,” referring to the number of figures on the left who have said that the Capitol riot was worse than the terrorist attacks in 2001.

Greenwald made a comparison between the January 6 incident and Black Lives Matter rallies that “turned violent.”

The journalist said he never saw those BLM events as an “insurrection,” either.

Greenwald explained, “Throughout 2020 the question always was how is this media … that was failing before Trump and then found a savior in Trump. He saved most of those media outlets.”

“What were they going to do in the likely scenario that he lost in 2020 as polls were showing,” Greenwald said.

“It kept fear levels high,” Glenn said, regarding coverage of the January 6 attack. “It is justifying all kinds of new powers in these agencies. They gave 2 billion dollars to the Capitol police five months after they were chanting defund the police.”

Greenwald claimed much of this is “political persecution” and the “faction of the American liberalism” has become “incredibly punitive with their political adversaries.”

He then compared it to how those who are unvaccinated are being treated, with the left “celebrating the fact that they are losing their jobs in the middle of a pandemic.”

Greenwald also said the left is eager to treat resisters in the harshest ways possible.

“Saying that the FBI is going to start to treat parents who come to school board meetings and protesting the fact their kids have to wear masks or other COVID restrictions they are gonna be treated as terrorists for terrorizing school board officials,” he said.

On observing the left’s increasing authoritarianism, Greenwald said, “That’s really what American liberalism has become.”
