Giddy NYC Mayor de Blasio Celebrates ‘Disgraced’ Cuomo Stepping Down – ‘We’re Turning A New Page Now’

A visibly ecstatic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio went on MSNBC on Tuesday morning to celebrate the “disgraced” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo stepping down the day before.

De Blasio Celebrates

“We’re turning a page now in New York, thank God,” De Blasio said while appearing on the MSNBC show “Morning Joe.”

Cuomo, who often had public disagreements with de Blasio, officially left office at midnight after an investigation concluded that he had sexually harassed nearly a dozen women. De Blasio could barely contain his excitement as he told host Willie Geist that he can work closely with new Gov. Kathy Hochul, who was sworn in just after midnight as Cuomo’s replacement.

“We have to fight back COVID, that’s what we have to work on together, fighting back the Delta variant, figuring out the way to build this recovery… we have a lot of work to do together, but imagine doing the work together, which wasn’t possible, Willie, I know this will shock you,” de Blasio said. “It was not possible with the previous incumbent.”

Cuomo Takes Apparent Dig At de Blasio

Cuomo praised Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams as he left office, which many interpreted as a dig at de Blasio. However, the mayor claimed that he was not bothered by Cuomo’s comments.

“Well, when someone disgraced takes a shot at you, I guess inadvertently, that’s a compliment, right?” he said.

“The bottom line is, it’s very sad that Andrew Cuomo could have had a moment of grace, could have talked about the women he wronged, could have talked about the seniors we lost in those nursing homes, could have brought it to a human level, but there is a narcissism there that doesn’t allow him to see anything but himself,” de Blasio added. “In a way, I’m very sad for his family.”

De Blasio concluded by saying this could all be a “message to people in public life” that having too much power often results in “something bad” happening to you.

There is certainly no love lost between these two liberals! Check out de Blasio’s full comments in the video below.
