California Leaders Warn Illegals of ICE Raids

For some ironic reason, it’s the areas negatively impacted the most by illegal immigration that are most intent on keeping the problem alive.

According to one study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the total cost of illegal immigration comes out to $116 billion annually when you account for federal services spent on illegals. California is the state that bears the single largest cost from illegal immigration: 23 billion a year, or $6,517 per alien.

With California’s residents leaving in droves every year, you’d think the elected officials there would be intent on improving the state for their legal residents, but apparently not. As Breitbart is reporting,

Gavin Newsom, California’s lieutenant governor and gubernatorial candidate, urged other local leaders on Sunday evening to follow Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and warn illegal immigrants in their communities of potential Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.

“We can and must protect immigrant families from Donald Trump’s mass deportations. I want to thank Mayor Schaaf for her courage and hope more local leaders will follow her lead,” Newsom, who has vowed to keep California a “sanctuary state,” reportedly said.
Over the weekend, Schaaf notified illegal immigrants in Oakland that she had “credible evidence” of potential ICE raids and urged them to contact immigrant resource groups in the Bay Area. Schaaf said she was sending out the alert “not to panic our residents but to protect them.” The San Francisco Chronicle said Schaaf’s message was more than clear: “Not only will Oakland and its police force not cooperate with ICE, but the city will actively seek to thwart efforts to detain and deport” illegal immigrants.

Whose side are they on, anyway? Certainly not on the sides of the people who actually voted them into office.

Not only do the liberals in California’s leadership think they can pick and choose which federal laws to obey, they think they can thwart the federal government at doing their job. The Justice Department begs to differ, and is reviewing Schaaf’s comments.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, regarding the comments, “I think it’s outrageous that a mayor would circumvent federal authorities and certainly put them in danger by making a move such as that. And that’s currently under review by the Department of Justice, and I don’t have anything else to add.”

Schaaf told reporters in defense of her actions “I continue to feel confident that what I did was the right thing and was legal.”

We’ll see what the Justice Department has to say about that.
