Gavin Newsom Admits ‘I’ve Made Mistakes’ As Calls Grow For Him To Be Recalled

During his State of the Union speech at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted that he’s made mistakes as calls continue to grow for him to be recalled over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Newsom Admits He’s ‘Made Mistakes’

“Look, we’ve made mistakes,” Newsom said in his speech, according to SFGATE. “I’ve made mistakes. But we own them, we learn from them, and we never stop trying.”

Newsom went on to address the recall effort against him, describing it as nothing more than a “partisan, political power grab.”

“I just want you to know – we’re not going to change course just because of a few naysayers and doomsdayers,” the Democratic governor continued.

“To the California critics who are promoting partisan, political power grabs with outdated prejudices and rejecting everything that makes California truly great, we say this: We will not be distracted from getting shots in arms and our economy booming again,” Newsom said. “This is a fight for California’s future.”

Newsom Recall Petition Reaches Two Million Signatures

This comes days after those behind the recall announced that their petition has garnered over two million signatures, which means they have enough to force a recall election later this year.

While 1.5 million signatures are required for a petition to make the ballot, organizers needed more than that since many signatures are deemed to be invalid during the review process.

“I don’t think you’ve ever seen a volunteer movement like this,” recall proponent Mike Netter said, according to The Sacramento Bee.

“It’s literally people from all walks of life, all parties, all religions. We have a diversity across the board collecting and united (on) one thing, and that’s the fact that California needs a new governor,” he added.

“Californians are becoming more disgruntled with how their state’s run,” added Randy Economy, a political adviser who has been working for the recall effort.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has already fired back at Newsom for his speech last night, saying, “California needs a comeback, but the only comeback Gavin Newsom is focused on his his own.”
