Former Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani Suspended From Practicing Law In DC

Rudy Giuliani, who served as an attorney for former President Donald Trump, has been suspended from practicing law in Washington, D.C.

Rudy Giuliani, who served as an attorney for former President Donald Trump, has been suspended from practicing law in Washington, D.C.

The ruling comes just weeks after a New York court suspended Giuliani’s law license for making “demonstrably false and misleading” statements to courts, legislators, and the public about the 2020 election.

An appeals court in Washington suspended the former mayor of New York City from working as an attorney in the city “pending final disposition” of the New York case.

As CNBC writes, “When he was suspended Wednesday, Giuliani was an inactive member of the District of Columbia bar in good standing, according to bar records.”

CNN defines the suspension even so as “a major blow” as Giuliani was “once considered an accomplished and formidable force in legal circles.”

Rudy Giuliani Suspended

The New York court last month suspended Rudy Giuliani claiming his statements “were made to improperly bolster respondent’s narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States presidential election was stolen from his client.”

The court also concluded that “respondent’s conduct immediately threatens the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law, pending further proceedings before the Attorney Grievance Committee.”

Observers hyperbolically might contend that if every lawyer was suspended for making false claims there would be no active lawyers.

Giuliani told the New York Post at the time that the New York court’s decision was “a complete invasion of my First Amendment rights and my rights as an attorney.”

“Of course it’s a partisan hit,” he continued. “I didn’t do anything wrong. There’s nothing I said that a witness didn’t tell me. We’re getting to be like East Germany.”

Trump Defends Rudy

The former President defended Rudy Giuliani after he was suspended from practicing law in New York issuing a statement calling him “an American patriot” and railing against the New York court’s “witch hunt.”

“The greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, the Eliot Ness of his generation, one of the greatest crime fighters our Country has ever known, and this is what the Radical Left does to him,” Trump lamented.

Conservative actor Jon Voight recently posted a video to social media defending Trump and his former lawyer Rudy Giuliani as “heroes of the United States.”

“How dare they suspend his license for defending truths?” Voight dramatically challenged. “How dare they justify this horrible sin against this human soul of righteousness?”

Politico reports that while the D.C. court hinges their decision on the resolution of New York’s case, the suspension could potentially be carried out after that case is closed.
