Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who is also running for Michigan Governor as a Republican, blasted ‘misguided liberal mayors’ for the spike in violent crime across most of America’s largest cities during Fox News Channel’s “Justice With Judge Jeanine.”
Craig singled out mayors like Lori Lightfoot in Chicago and Muriel Bowser in Washington D.C., who “continue to forget our police officers across the country are demoralized. They don’t feel supported.”
Craig has been outspoken against far-left Democrats who advocate defunding the police.

Protecting Criminals
During in interview with Judge Jeanine Pirro, Craig called out Democrats for protecting criminals while giving no thought to the victims of violent crime.
He stated, “They are protecting the criminals. And you know what’s sad, they are not talking to victims, to families. those people who live in vulnerable neighborhoods who need the police. They don’t care about that. They care more about these criminals.”
He compared liberal mayors to tough-on-crime figures like former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
“Look, I’m an advocate of community policing, I am. But we need to get back to proactive policing. You talked about Rudy Giuliani. You talked about Bill Bratton. That’s what works.”

Crime Wave Across The U.S.
It is no secret that violent crime in the U.S. has surged dramatically.
The BBC reports that during the first three months of 2021, there was an 18% increase in murders compared to the same time in 2020. The worst place being Chicago, murders alone have gone up 15% and are double what they were two years ago.
In New York, through the middle of June, the Big Apple saw roughly 200 murders, a 13% increase since last year. Shooting incidents were up 38% from Jan.1 to July 4 compared to 2020.
Chief Craig also named Squad member Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), who it was recently revealed through campaigning filings spent $70,000 on security for herself, while being one of the most outspoken advocates of defunding the police.
Craig had this to say about those who want security for themselves but not their constituents, “..and as I said as I was beginning to say about Cori Bush since she’s a defund reimagining, how bout you do this? Put a social worker on your detail, just do that…”

Craig has a strong case in placing the blame with Democrats.
After a feeble attempt by Democrats to put forth the notion that it was Republicans who had called for defunding the police, the Republican Study Committee compiled tweets and video clips that depict Democrats actively advocating for defunding the police.
