North Broward Preparatory School in Florida Is on Lockdown- Here’s What We Know

New reports show another shooting has been reported at North Broward County Preparatory School today in Florida. Thankfully, law enforcement now believes it’s a false alarm.

According to Coconut Creek Police, a teacher sent a text message to somebody off campus, saying she heard a shot fired at North Broward Preparatory School, located at 7600 Lyons Road. The school was placed on lockdown:

Police conducted a search of a Broward preparatory school Thursday morning after a teacher said she heard a gun shot.

According to Coconut Creek Police, a teacher sent a text message to somebody off-campus saying she heard a shot fired at North Broward Preparatory School, located at 7600 Lyons Road.

In an abundance of caution, police went room to room conducting a search and placed the school on lockdown.

Police have since lifted the lockdown and classified this as a false alarm.

It’s unclear why there was a heavy police presence at the school, however. A Local 10 News viewer said her friend, who is a librarian at the school, barricaded herself inside a bathroom with nine students while the school was on lockdown.

A parent of a student at the school said the scare was caused by a false alarm. A police spokesman said, “In an abundance of caution, police are going room to room conducting a search.”

The parent said police searched every building before allowing students back inside.

North Broward Preparatory School is about 10 miles away from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where a gunman opened fire on students and teachers Wednesday afternoon. It’s clear that every school has good reason to be on high alert, out of fear of potential copycats from yesterday’s shocking tragedy.
