Flashback Video: Democrat Cori Bush Seems Confused About How Taxes Work

A video surfaced on X showing Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) struggling to answer questions posed by a reporter regarding tax codes.

A video surfaced on X Tuesday showing Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) struggling to answer basic questions posed by a reporter regarding tax codes and just how much the rich should pay before it’s considered their “fair share.”

The clip posted to social media appears to show Bush as she is campaigning for the House seat in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District in a failed 2018 bid.

In retrospect, it could have served as a warning sign that the eventual ‘Squad’ member was out of her element as a politician.

The video starts off showing Bush unclear on what the reporter is asking her, something he then helpfully clarifies.

“No, I’m asking what percentage is a fair share?” he states.

“Their fair share … the same … if I’m paying … If a third of my money is going to taxes, then I think a third of their money should be going to taxes,” she replied.

To which the reporter replies, “It does.”

“Well, it does,” Bush counters with a big smile before she pauses and appears to struggle for a counterpoint.

Cori Bush Struggles With Questions About the Tax Code

Representative Cori Bush further struggled with the reporter’s questions about tax rates paid by the poor, the middle class, and the wealthy.

“Okay, so first of all, I’m not ‘the poor,'” she fired back, prompting the journalist to rephrase the question to address a higher income rate.

“The effective tax rate on the Middle Class is less than it is on the rich, correct?” he wonders.

Bush simply looks up toward the ceiling and sighs.

The entire exchange is viewed by some social media users as difficult to watch, especially in light of the fact that Bush would eventually go on to win that congressional seat in 2020, becoming a lawmaker tasked with shaping tax law and policy.

“These radical progressive politicians know nothing beyond the slogans they screech and have no idea about actual law policy or facts,” one user said in sharing the clip.

“And she gets to vote on these decisions that she doesn’t even comprehend. That’s the scary part,” another chimed in.

Bush’s Confusing Comments Continued Well After This

Cori Bush’s comments on the tax code could have served as a warning for what would come in her short congressional career.

Over the summer, she got tagged with a Community Notes fact check for an X post noting the anniversary of the death of Mike Brown, in which she seemed unaware that the shooting had been deemed ‘justified’ by the Obama Justice Department.

In 2021, the Democrat lawmaker made a wild claim that ‘white supremacists’ opened fire and ‘shot at’ her during the protests in Ferguson, Missouri that followed Brown’s death.

According to Ferguson police chief at the time, Frank McCall Jr., it didn’t, to the best of his knowledge, happen.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that McCall “didn’t know that there was any record of such an incident” and “wasn’t aware of any incidents that the tweet might be referencing.”

Bush also famously suggested the heinous killing of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five black Memphis police officers was an example of white supremacy.

“The mere presence of Black officers does not stop policing from being a tool of white supremacy,” she argued.

The Political Insider earlier this week reported on Cori Bush’s husband being paid over $100,000 by her campaign.

  1. Cori Bush doesn’t know her ass from her mouth because both sides has shit coming out. She needs to be voted the hell out of congress, she’s been for Black Lives Matter and defunding our law enforcement. She’s a cancer to our nation and she should be fired immediately. We don’t need or want such hateful, divisive representatives in our government.

  2. We really need to find a way to get people to wake the heck up and stop voting for the Democrats who are trying so hard to ruin America! This includes not only the SQUAD but people like Cori Bush and others who are like her! Jess

  3. About right for all democrats — “dumber than a rock”. Who is dumber? The voters in the 18th district who continue to support such a person of low intelligence and no moral compass. Congrats, 18th District, you should all have a large L tatooed on your foreheads.
