Flashback (November 2016): Obama Claims He’s Kept Politics Out of the FBI

Video from November of 2016, just days after Donald Trump had won the election, shows former president Barack Obama claiming he has been very careful in keeping politics out of the FBI.

The statement came just months after text messages exchanged between disgraced former FBI agent Peter Strzok and his girlfriend, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, indicated that “[Obama] wants to know about everything” the agency was doing in regards to the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

It was also made in the midst of what we now know was extensive surveillance on the Trump campaign.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Al Sharpton, Obama claimed the bureau’s “investigators and prosecutors are independent of politics” and that “they’re not politicized.”

“They’re not used as a weapon to advantage either side in partisan arguments,” he misinformed. “And I want to make sure that we continue with that tradition and with that norm.”

He repeated that assertion at a press briefing where he told reporters with respect to the FBI, “we want our law enforcement investigators and our prosecutors to be free from politics, to be independent, to play it straight.”

This seems particularly important considering it has become very clear that Obama used the FBI to conduct warrantless investigations and spying into his political adversary.

Two Months Earlier …

Consider the words Obama says above, and then consider that in September of 2016 he was demanding to know everything about the FBI’s investigation of Clinton.

“Potus wants to know everything we’re doing,” Page wrote.

The exchange yielded questions about the integrity of the investigation into Clinton and appeared to implicate Obama himself as a player, possibly intimidating investigators.

… And Beyond

FBI officials carried on that mindset well beyond Obama’s term. They were politically motivated when they interjected Obama into the Clinton investigation, and they were politically motivated when they discussed ways to take down President Trump.

Memos written by former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe showed that Rosenstein offered to wear a wire during meetings with Trump.

The bombshell report also claimed he had “discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.”

But yea, nothing politically motivated about that, eh Mr. Obama?

Attorney General Bill Barr has indicated he will investigate the nexus for the entire Russia collusion hoax, which included politically motivated spying on Trump’s campaign.

Barr told Fox News that America needs to know “exactly what happened” with counterintelligence (spying) activities conducted during the 2016 election as a means to stop Trump from winning the White House.

President Trump has demanded “long jail sentences” for Obama-era officials for their role in illegally spying on the campaign.
