Ex-Obama Advisor Valerie Jarrett Demands Vaccine Mandates – ‘Time For Us To Take Firm Measures’

Obama Valerie Jarrett

Valerie Jarrett, a former advisor to Barack Obama, went on MSNBC on Friday to call for COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Jarrett Sounds Off

“I’m all for mandating it,” Jarrett told host Andrea Mitchell. “I know in this country, it’s hard to mandate things. I think what we can do is say, look, if you want them to make their own decision, fine, but we’re not going to let you come to sporting events or schools.”

“What about mandating it for healthcare workers?” Mitchell asked.

Jarrett responded by taking this even rather.

“Absolutely. I am all for mandates, particularly for people who are interfacing with the public,” Jarrett said. “The only way we can contain this disease, we know, is with vaccinations.”

“So for public health workers, of course, they should be vaccinated, and for people working in our restaurant, of course, they should be vaccinated,” she continued. “I take a pretty hard line in terms of the mandates.”

Jarrett Doubles Down

“We’re saying if you want to be a part of this society, our responsibility is to keep it as healthy as possible, take the vaccine,” she added, at which time Mitchell asked, “What do you think about what the NFL is doing?”

“I’m all for it. I agree with the doctor, mandate it, but short of that, you have to create both carrots and sticks,” Jarrett concluded. “I think it is now time for us to take firm measures and try to get as many people vaccinated as possible, and where appropriate, there should be a mandate.”

This comes one day after CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen called for vaccine mandates around the country.

“I definitely think that the Biden administration should be thinking about these things, and this is the reason why it should not just be a decision of the CDC,” she said.

“Part of the problem, I think, is that the Biden administration has been equating following the science with listening to one scientific institution when actually the implication is not just about the actual data and the physical science,” Wen added. “It’s also about social science and people’s behaviors and what’s likely to come as a result of them.”

“The CDC in the first place made the right decision when it comes to the science, but they didn’t take into account human behavior,” Wen continued.

“And I think there is … one thing the Biden administration could be doing right now that would change the equation when it comes to incentives, and that’s to use proof of vaccination,” she concluded. “If they could say, get the vaccine, you have a proof of vaccination, you can take off your mask. That would be really key. And I also think vaccine mandates are something that will have to come.”
