ESPN Pulls Football Announcer Because His Name is Robert Lee

This is one of those stories that you have to do a double take when reading it because you couldn’t possibly think it’s real.

But alas, this is the modern era of political correctness, and liberal thinking has seeped into every facet of our lives – including sports.

ESPN continued their leftward trend, bowing to the P.C. crowd in one of the most embarrassing manners imaginable.

The sports network pulled a college football announcer from coverage of a season opener for the University of Virginia for a head-scratching reason.

Asian-American announcer, Robert Lee, was removed from that game because his name matches that of a Confederate general in the American Civil War.

Via Outkick the Coverage:

In a story that seems made for The Onion, but is actually true, according to multiple Outkick fans inside ESPN MSESPN decided to pull an Asian college football announcer named Robert Lee off the William and Mary at University of Virginia college football game because they were concerned that having an ASIAN FOOTBALL ANNOUNCER NAMED ROBERT LEE would be offensive to some viewers.

Did I mention that Robert Lee is Asian?

Is this even real life anymore? This might even be worse than MSESPN apologizing for the fantasy football slave draft a couple of weeks ago.

To avoid offending left wing idiots Robert Lee, the Asian college football announcer, not the Confederate General who died in 1870 and shares a name with him, was switched to the Youngstown State at Pittsburgh game and Dave Weekley will now call the William and Mary at University of Virginia game.

ESPN confirmed the move was made “because of the coincidence of his name” and seemed to be surprised that it was even an issue, according to their statement.

Yes, because Lee is such a rare name. As is Robert. And the likelihood of football fans being unable to distinguish between an Asian-American sports analyst and a long-dead Confederate general was a risk they just couldn’t take.

If anyone at ESPN is looking for sound advice on how to stop the ratings plunge which led to over 100 employees being fired, they could start analyzing this move.

It’s P.C. garbage like this – along with the Black Lives Matter protests at the ESPY awards, and giving Caitlyn Jenner a ‘courage’ award – that is making people turn the channel.
