Eric Holder: American ‘Greatness’ Never Really Existed

Former Attorney General Eric Holder has a question for supporters of President Trump – When did you actually think America was ever great?

The Obama-era official, during an interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Wednesday, discussed whether or not the nation could be considered a leader of democracy in the 1800s.

Holder used that as a launching point to contend that at no time has America ever been great.

“I hear these things about ‘let’s make America great again,'” Holder said, “and I think to myself, ‘exactly when did you think America was great?'”

He didn’t stop there.

“It certainly wasn’t [great] when people were enslaved. It certainly wasn’t when women didn’t have the right to vote,” he railed. “It certainly wasn’t when the LGBT community was denied the rights to which it was entitled.”

Holder then said the phrase “Make America Great Again” actually “takes us back to … an American past that never in fact really existed – This notion of greatness.”

This is What the Left Believes

The most remarkable thing about hearing any politician, particularly one who had been considering becoming President of the United States, say America was never great, is that Holder isn’t the only one who believes this. Not by a long shot.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo drew widespread criticism and audible gasps when, in front of a room full of people at a bill-signing event, he essentially made the same comments.

“We’re not going to make America great again,” Cuomo said, taking a shot at Trump’s famous campaign slogan. “It was never that great.”

Are Holder and Cuomo the only Democrats who believe America isn’t all it’s cracked up to be? Hardly.

2020 Candidates Who Don’t Think America Is Great

Here’s a brief rundown of three top candidates who actually have committed to running in 2020. These people actually want to lead America into the future:

  • Cory Booker – “There’s things that are savagely wrong in this country.”
  • Bernie Sanders – “There is something fundamentally immoral and wrong about (America).”
  • Elizabeth Warren – The American law enforcement system is “racist” from “front to back.”

Even up-and-comers in the Democrat party ranks have badmouthed the greatest nation on Earth.

Speaking at the South by Southwest Conference earlier this month, socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested that the current state of America is “garbage.”

Democrat Voters

At least Democrat voters don’t feel this way. Right? Right?!

A poll from Rasmussen Reports over the summer indicates that a surprisingly high percentage of Democrats agree with the assertion that America ‘was never great.’

“One-in-five Democrats agree,” Rasmussen reported, “but a sizable majority of all voters thinks he was off-base.”

President Trump, by contrast, just recently countered the notion.

“I just want to tell you that, America is the greatest place on earth, the greatest place on earth,” he said.

Now, which of the above people do your views side with?
