Talk about a tone-deaf response.

Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old University of Iowa student, was last seen jogging on July 18th near her boyfriend’s home, having been watching his dogs while he worked at a construction site 100 miles away.

Her body was discovered on August 21st in a cornfield approximately 12 miles from where she had been running. A Mexican national named Cristhian Rivera has been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Rivera, according to police, has been living illegally in the area for years. Following his arrest, an MSNBC guest downplayed Tibbetts as just a “girl from Iowa.”

He is being held on a federal immigration detainer.

Like a robot programmed to spit out only Democrat talking points, Senator Elizabeth Warren was asked to comment about the case and swiftly pivoted to expressing sympathy for the true victims – illegal immigrants who had been separated from their ‘children’ after crossing the border.

In fact, she spent nine seconds commenting on her sorrow for Mollie, her family and the community, followed up by nearly a minute of rambling about the ‘real problem’ in fixing the immigration system.

“The person (who allegedly murdered Mollie) is an undocumented immigrant,” CNN’s John Berman said. “Mike Pence and the President have suggested the immigration laws need to be stronger so that people like this man who is accused of this murder were not in the country. Your reaction?”

Warren’s condolences were brief before she launched into a diatribe about illegals and separating babies from their mamas.

“Last month, I went down to the border and I saw where children had been taken away from their mothers, I met with their mothers who had been lied to, who didn’t know where their children were, who hadn’t have a chance to talk to their children, and there was no plan for how they would be reunified with their children,” she emoted.

“I think we need immigration laws that focus on people who pose a real threat and I don’t think mamas and babies are the places we should be spending our resources,” Warren added. “Separating a mama from a baby does not make this country safer.”

‘Pose a real threat?’

Did Rivera not pose a real threat to Mollie? Did an illegal immigrant not pose a threat to Kate Steinle? Did another illegal immigrant not pose a threat to Jamiel Shaw II?

Republican lawmakers have been expressing their condolences for the family but also offering justifiable outrage that she died at the hands of someone who never should have been in the country.

“I just want Mollie’s family to know: You’re on the hearts of every American,” Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday.

“We commend the swift action by local, state, & federal investigators working in Iowa in apprehending an illegal immigrant, who’s now charged with first-degree murder,” he added. “Now, justice will be served. We will never forget Mollie Tibbetts.”

“Mollie Tibbetts, our hearts are broken,” Republican Iowa Rep. Steve King tweeted. “We all prayed for your safe return. May you now be with the Lord and your family one day find a peace. Justice must now be served.”

In Warren’s eyes, justice involves letting illegal immigrants run amok across our borders and remaining in the country.

Maybe someday she’ll be just as heartbroken and concerned about American citizens and legal immigrants who fall victim to the illegals she currently sympathizes with.
