DHS Chief Claims Worry About New ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ Is Due To ‘Misinformation’

It seems the natural state of the left-wing media and Liberal pundits is hysteria. CNN contributor David Zurawik wigged out in a typical post-apocalyptic meltdown over Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

Citing the 1927 Radio Act and the 1934 Communications Act that created the FCC, he noted, “FCC wasn’t great” as reasons why we need to “…control the channels of communication in this country.” More on that incredible segment, with must-see video, later.

This is all rather timely given the recent announcement by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board to be overseen by “Disinformation Fellow” (whatever that is) Nina Jankowicz.

Disinfo Boss Claims Info About Disinfo Board Is Disinfo

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas spent the last few days cleaning up aisle five.

A Politico piece about Mayorkas fretting that there’s “misinformation” about the Disinformation Governance Board opens up with this incredible framing: “Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday defended the department’s new disinformation board amid pushback from conservatives who say the effort is Orwellian.”

Mayorkas lamented the job they’ve done so far in announcing the creation of Orwellian-sounding board:

“We probably could have done a better job of communicating what it does and does not do.”

Do you think? So what does it do? According to what he told CNN’s Dana Bash:

“It works to ensure that the way in which we address threats, the connectivity between threats and acts of violence are addressed without infringing on free speech – protecting civil rights and civil liberties, the right of privacy.”

Clear as mud? I thought so, too. He also stated the board is meant to “…communicate those best practices to the operators.” and my favorite:

“The fact is that disinformation that creates a threat to the security of the homeland is our responsibility to address. And this department has been addressing it for years…”

And what a bang-up job you all have been doing with defending the homeland.

CASE IN POINT: Law Enforcement: Border Patrol Agents Have Lost Operational Control, Awareness At Border

The original ‘goal’ of the organization, according to themselves, is to counter disinformation coming from Russia and rebut misleading information aimed at migrants hoping to travel to the border.

The Songbird of Our Generation?

I’m fascinated by this concept of ‘Fellows.’ I am increasingly confused as to why I haven’t been asked to be one yet, as clearly the bar is relatively low for this title.

For example, our new Disinformation Czarina Nina Jankowicz is a “Disinformation Fellow” at the Wilson Center. Given her extensive background, she’s highly qualified to lead a board focused on rooting out disinformation.

For example, she claimed the infamous Steele Dossier that kicked off Russiagate was fact and dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story as a “Kremlin concoction,” which I have to admit is pretty catchy.

Unfortunately, she was wrong on both of those issues. In other words, she was spreading disinformation about crucial issues. Will she work to correct and silence herself as the new czar?

It remains to be seen what exactly she is good at other than creating cleverly reconstructed lyrics to popular show tunes and unashamedly belting them out on video. We’ve all seen at this point the video of her rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialodutious with such lyrics as:

“Information laundering is really quite ferocious. It’s when a huckster takes some lies and makes them sound precocious.”

Watch in all it’s glory:

Now, who doesn’t enjoy musical spin-offs? I’ve been known to adjust some lyrics for my kiddos, such as my daughter’s family mommy spin-off of Semisonic’s Closing Time, renamed Sleepy Time. However, my lyrics focus on taking an afternoon nap and are naughty-word free.

The Four Ministries

Conservatives and logical human beings have justifiable concerns around this new board and its soon-to-be fearless leader—many have likened this Disinformation Governance Board to George Orwell’s “1984” Ministry of Truth. But unfortunately, there are probably a lot of Americans who haven’t read “1984” and don’t fully understand the reference, so I’m happy to provide a little background and comparison.

The Ministry of Truth is one of four ministries in “1984”. This particular ministry is responsible for Big Brother propaganda. It does things such as falsifying historical events to match Big Brother’s narrative. Sound familiar?

Given the left’s previous attempts to rewrite our American history in our schools, it should. This ministry also pushes the slogan – War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.

But our government hasn’t just now started emulating this book. The Ministry of Peace manages the war machine in “1984” and essentially finds ways to perpetuate wars without an end in sight, all for the fiscal benefit of Big Brother. Sound familiar? Given our Department of Defense’s dismal results in Afghanistan, it should.

Could it be only a matter of time before we see our version of a Ministry of Love and Ministry of Plenty? If you still don’t know what I’m referring to or haven’t heard of the term ‘doublethink,’ put down the digital medium of your choice and read an actual book, preferably “1984” – but first finish reading my article, then put the tablet/phone down and read an actual book.

Somebody Give CNN a Hug

To get to the bottom of this Disinformation Governance Board, one must only look at the reaction of the political-journalist class to the news that they may not be able to censor Twitter to their heart’s desire.

The meltdowns occurring on CNN should probably warrant an actual nuclear advisory at this point. Zurawik went on to say about Elon’s purchase, “We can’t think anymore in this country!” and “We are headed to hell. Trump opened the gates of hell, and now they’re chasing us down.” Oh my, someone needs some naptime; I’ve got a great song for that if he needs it to calm down.

But he really gives away the game by saying out loud what they’ve previously kept under wraps. To wit, “But there’s a bigger problem of how we’re going to control the communications channels in this country.” (Emphasis added.)

Just watch:

What I found interesting was his reference to the Radio Act of 1927. Section 18 of that Act ordered radio stations to give equal opportunities to political candidates from all parties.

This past week, Charlotte Alter from TIME Magazine claimed free speech is worth more to Elon than education for every child in nearly 50 countries, in an apparent dig at the amount of money he was willing to spend to get Twitter.

Experts now say that 10% of the 800 billion dollars in COVID PPP relief funds were used fraudulently. That’s two Twitters, technically.

She goes on to discuss Professor of Communication at Stanford University Fred Turner’s take:

“Free speech seems to be much more of an obsession among men.”

Think about that for a second. Obsession is a word that makes you think of something terrible, like your exes’ obsession with your shoes. As if being obsessed with free speech is something to be combated or dialed down.

I, for one, am a woman, and I am most definitely obsessed with free speech.
