Deplorable: Hillary Solicits Donations For Clinton Foundation Following Report That Donations Have Plunged 75%

Hillary Clinton was the subject of online mockery for soliciting donations to the Clinton Foundation just weeks after a report indicating the organization had seen a 75% drop in contributions.

The Twitter account for the foundation itself had tweeted about the group’s work which includes a focus on ‘climate change’ and ‘economic opportunity.’

Clinton shared the message and added her pitch shortly thereafter.

“If you’re able to give, I hope you’ll consider supporting the life-changing work of the [Clinton Foundation],” she appealed.

Hillary Begs For Clinton Foundation Donations

The former First Lady’s plea has a whiff of desperation considering just weeks earlier, a report indicated donations to the Clinton Foundation had plummeted.

An Axios review of documents indicates the foundation’s donations had dropped to $16 million last year.

We know – First world problems, right?

But, as Axios notes, that number represents a drop of “nearly 75% from the organization’s peak” when Clinton was running for – and losing – the presidency.

It didn’t take long for social media users to question the former Secretary of State over her Clinton Foundation donation plea.

“Does Chelsea need a new house or something?” one reader wondered.

“How much life-changing help did Haiti get?” another asked, a reference to reports that the Foundation had failed on some fronts to deliver aid following a devastating earthquake in 2010.

Still, another suggested they’d be willing to donate “Only if it goes to the families of those lost in Benghazi.”

Paying For Access

The Clinton Foundation’s struggles seem to be further evidence that a vast majority of donations in their heyday were an effort to garner favor and access with the Clinton’s.

Reports of donation amounts after her loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election demonstrate that.

Contributions to the foundation, once Hillary’s political power had been expunged by Trump’s victory, dropped from $62.9 million in 2016 to $26.6 million the following year.

That alone represented a significant 57.7 percent drop.

Now, according to Axios, it has continued to drop years later.

The outlet notes that the pandemic played a large role in last year’s decline because “the foundation has historically relied on large events to court contributions.”

Those events “had to either be canceled during most of 2020 or converted to a virtual format.”

Hillary was so desperate to get donations via a live event that she attended a fundraiser before eventually visiting her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in the hospital after he was admitted for sepsis in October.

“Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not in California when her husband was hospitalized, but she flew here and attended the foundation event Thursday and then joined the former president in Irvine afterwards,” the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.

In a 2014 interview, Mrs. Clinton made the false claim that the former power couple came out of the White House after Bill’s presidency “not only dead broke, but in debt.”

Politifact rated that claim “mostly false.”
