Poll: Democrats Split on Banning All Guns

POMPANO BEACH, FL - FEBRUARY 25: Activists protest in front of Kalashnikov USA, a gun manufacturer that makes an AK-47 rifle, on February 25, 2018 in Pompano Beach, Florida. The protesters are rallying for gun reform in light of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14. Don’t let the calls for “common sense” gun control fool you, because in gun politics, one regulation is never enough.

It’s seldom the case that any of the “common sense” gun-control regulations that liberals ever call for in the wake of a mass public shooting would’ve actually prevented that very shooting, so there will always be more such shootings in the future, and thus more calls for gun control.

Did the 23 gun-control regulations Obama passed by executive order in 2013 calm even his very own calls for gun control? Nope. And neither will any of the gun-control regulations that could possibly get passed in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas school shooting.

By the looks of it, calls for gun control from the Left won’t end until there aren’t any guns left to control. According to HotAir,

YouGov asked people whether they favor or oppose banning semiautomatic weapons. Note: Not semiautomatic rifles, which some might incorrectly but understandably treat as a question about AR-15s or “assault weapons.” YouGov asked about semiautomatic weapons. That means handguns too. Result:

So, just over 8 in 10 Democrats favor banning all semi-automatic weapons. Great. It’s a shame that the poll didn’t make sure what respondents knew what “semi-automatic” means, because there’s a decent chunk of the population that mistakenly thinks “semi-automatic” firearms are machine guns.

Instead, the next poll question asked whether or not respondents would favor banning all handguns (except for police). When phrased that way, Democrats were split:

So, when asked if they’d ban all handguns, Democrats are divided, with 44 percent in favor, 46 percent in opposition, and 10 percent undecided. When asked if they’d want to ban all semi-automatic weapons (which includes handguns – but perhaps they’re ignorant of this fact), 82 percent favor banning them.

Is that what you’d expect from people who merely want “common sense gun laws,” or people who want guns banned altogether?
