For a bunch of sanctuary-loving Democrats, they sure are fighting incredibly hard to prevent Republican governors from transporting illegal immigrants to their cities or states.
Far-left Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) joined five other Democrat lawmakers in writing a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg asking the department to investigate whether Florida Governor Ron DeSantis broke department rules when he reportedly flew illegal immigrants into Martha’s Vineyard.
It is the latest desperate ploy by the left to assign some level of illegality to the flights.
In their letter, Markey along with Reps. Lori Trahan, Seth Moulton, Stephen Lynch, Jake Auchincloss, and Bill Keating, point to the DOT Air Charter “Broker Rule.”
The broker rule prohibits “misrepresentations as to the time of departure or arrival, points served, route to be flown, stops to be made, or total trip-time from point of departure to destination” on flights.
“The Department should use all tools within its authority — including the Charter-Broker Rule — to ensure that migrants are not transported under false pretenses as part of a competition among wannabe Trump acolytes to claim the mantle of cruelest governor in the United States,” the letter states.

Will Pete Buttigieg Investigate DeSantis?
The entire premise of Ed Markey’s request for Pete Buttigieg to investigate DeSantis hinges on the word of three illegal immigrants who filed a class action lawsuit alleging they were told they were being flown to Boston instead.
Officials involved in the flying of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, according to court documents, “made false promises and false representations that if Plaintiffs and class members were willing to board airplanes to other states, they would receive employment, housing, educational opportunities, and other like assistance upon their arrival.”
They also claim they were lured onto the flights with visions of Happy Meals dancing in their heads. The lawsuit states that illegal immigrants were enticed with $10 gift cards for McDonald’s.

“We urge DOT to swiftly investigate the company and individuals responsible for these representations and take all necessary action to protect migrants from such dishonest behavior,” the Democrats wrote.

DeSantis: They Signed Consent Forms
Now, we all know Pete Buttigieg isn’t a big fan of actually doing his job – he is, after all, the guy who took off nearly two months for paternity leave while America was mired in a supply chain crisis – but he does love him some pet projects that ingratiate him to an administration who put him in his role.
In fact, while the nation struggled, Pete was focusing his efforts on paternity leave, free pre-school, and racist roads.
So a frivolous investigation into DeSantis seems right up his alley and he’ll likely jump at Markey’s direction.
Inanimate objects, like roads, can’t be racist. That seems obvious, though apparently Pete Buttigieg doesn’t know this. pic.twitter.com/XabGgEa8jx

There’s just one hitch in the whole plan.
DeSantis’ office produced a consent form that was allegedly signed by all before boarding the flights.

“I agree to hold the benefactor or its designed representatives harmless of all liability arising out of or in any way relating to any injuries and damages that may occur during the agreed transport to locations outside of Texas until the final destination in Massachusetts,” the form reads.
Not only does that provide consent to be transported but it names the state of Massachusetts as the destination. Not Boston, not even Martha’s Vineyard.
They appear to have agreed to be flown to anywhere in the Bay State.
DeSantis’ Office responds, saying “it is opportunistic that activists would use illegal immigrants for political theater.”

Similar to Markey’s efforts, California Governor Gavin Newsom demanded Attorney General Merrick Garland investigate DeSantis for allegedly “kidnapping” the illegal immigrants.

Pete Buttigieg has been a critic of DeSantis Air flying illegal immigrants into Martha’s Vineyard.
“Obviously, there are issues with the border and with migration, but these are the kinds of stunts you see from people who don’t have a solution,” he said.
Pete Buttigieg also accused DeSantis of ‘tricking‘ illegals into getting on board.
As a candidate for President, the Transportation Secretary championed policies that would contribute to open borders, including amnesty for millions and putting a stop to the construction of a wall at the southern border.
That right there is a man with no solution.
