Democrats Finally Acknowledge America’s Border Crisis (What Took Them So Long?)

With the 2020 election now on the horizon, look who's saying what

Remember how Democrats, one after another, claimed that the border crisis President Donald Trump kept calling the nation’s attention to was “manufactured”?

They said he was lying.

They said he was using that language for his own political purposes.

They said there were no issues to speak of at the border.

During his first primetime Oval Office address earlier this year, the president explained that there was a “humanitarian and security crisis” at the southern border. “Democrats in Congress have refused to acknowledge the crisis. And they have refused to provide our brave border agents will the tools they desperately need to protect our families and our nation,” he noted at the time.

“The federal government remains shut down for one reason, and one reason only,” Trump also said during his remarks about the partial government closure in early January. “Because Democrats will not fund border security. My administration is doing everything in its power to help those impacted by this situation. But the only solution is for Democrats to pass a spending bill that defends our borders and reopens the government.”

Right after Trump’s address, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stood beside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to address the nation — and said that Trump was working to “manufacture a crisis, stoke fear and divert attention from the turmoil in his administration.”

And Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — who will be debating Wednesday night in the first of the two Democratic primary debates this week — famously said at the time that the nation was “not falling” for the “fake crisis” at the border.

Well, that is hardly the tune many Democrats — as well as the media outlets in their corner — are singing now.

The crisis of hordes of people from Central American countries trying to force their way into America for an array of reasons has been sadly and dramatically illustrated now by a tragic photo of a dead man and his young daughter.

They both perished while trying to cross the Rio Grande this past Sunday.

The New York Times ran the photo of the tragedy on the front page of its print edition on Wednesday.

CNN even covered the grim photo with this chyron: “Shocking image illustrates crisis at American’s southern border,” as Fox News noted in a piece about the issue.

As that outlet also explained, “Stories of neglect and mistreatment at a Border Patrol facility in Clint, Texas — including inadequate food and water and children taking care of toddlers — have also gained attention, coming as acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner John Sanders stepped down this week amid controversy over the conditions.”

Dan Gainor, Media Research Center’s vice president, told Fox News that “the media strategy has shifted” as anti-Trump pundits and Democratic officials are now concerned with the number of people crossing the border.

“The press can’t deny it anymore, even though they did just a few months ago,” Gainor told the news outlet, adding they would use the tragic incident at the border to blame the president.

“They won’t explain that it’s Democrats pushing open borders who have escalated this crisis by encouraging more people to enter the U.S.,” he said.
