Democrats Introduce Bill to ‘Abolish ICE’, Then Vote No When It’s Brought to the Floor

Democrats abolish ICE bill
NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 29: Activists march and rally against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Trump administration's immigration policies, outside of the ICE offices in Federal Plaza, June 29, 2018 in New York City. The rally was organized by the Democratic Socialists of America and they are calling for the full abolition of ICE. Earlier this week, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) became the first sitting senator to advocate for the elimination of ICE. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)

Three Democrat lawmakers who introduced legislation to ‘abolish ICE’ had their bluff called when House GOP leaders agreed to bring the bill to the floor.

The legislation dubbed the ‘Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement System Act’ was introduced on Thursday by Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Adriano Espaillat (D-NY).

According to The Hill, the Democrat bill would “create a commission to examine ICE’s responsibilities and then recommend transferring them to other agencies.”

Other prominent Democrats have also called for abolishing ICE, including Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, who allegedly broke immigration laws himself recently. (RELATED: Border Protection Claims NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Illegally Crossed Southern Border).

Republican lawmakers responded by essentially saying ‘if you want to move that far to the extreme, let’s do it.’

Their bluff was called when GOP leaders agreed to get them on record with their vote.

“Abolishing ICE … is a radical, extreme position that would lead to open borders and undermine America’s national security,” House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) said. “I think it’s the wrong approach. I think everyone ought to be on record about where they stand on that issue.”

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) agreed, saying he’d bring the bill to the floor of the House for a vote.

All three of the Democrats who introduced the bill said they’d vote ‘no’ on it, claiming they know Speaker Paul Ryan isn’t serious about passing the bill.

So? Even if that’s the case if you strongly believe in abolishing ICE, why wouldn’t you vote ‘yes’?

The fact is, these Democrats aren’t serious about passing it either. They were just looking for some love from their radical leftist base who truly believe ICE is the equivalent of the Nazis taking people to ‘concentration camps.’

At the same time, they must surely realize that a vast, vast majority of Americans oppose the abolition of ICE. (RELATED: Poll Shows Most Oppose Abolishing ICE).

“This is the agency that gets gangs out of our communities, that helps prevent drugs from flowing into our schools, that rescues people from human trafficking,” Ryan said of the radical Democrat legislation.

He also believes Democrats “are tripping over themselves to move too far to the left.”

Even Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) has backed away from the ‘abolish ICE’ movement.

“No American likes the separation of children and that’s an awful thing and that’s got to be stopped, but ICE does do some things that are very important,” he said.

The “Abolish ICE” movement is nothing more than a political ploy by Democrats to raise money because deep down they know that the agency is extremely important to protecting America’s national security.
