The Department of Justice is reportedly investigating a Democrat lobbying firm with ties to Hunter Biden regarding whether they illegally lobbied on behalf of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company for which he was a board member.
Politico reports that four people with knowledge of the probe have indicated there is an ongoing criminal investigation into Blue Star Strategies, with two alleging “there has been grand jury activity in connection to the probe.”
“One focus of the investigation is whether the firm failed to comply with disclosure requirements under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), a law that requires Americans to disclose lobbying and public affairs work for foreign officials and political parties,” they detailed.
Blue Star allegedly did not disclose to the Justice Department that Burisma was a client.
“It is the firm’s work for Burisma Holdings, an energy company based in Ukraine facing allegations of corruption, that has subjected Blue Star to government scrutiny,” reports Politico.
The co-founders of Blue Star Strategies are longtime Washington operatives having previously worked in the Clinton administration.
Politico contends there are no signs that the President’s son is a target of the investigation.

Democrat Lobbying Firm With Ties to Hunter Biden Under Investigation
The Wall Street Journal in November of 2019 reported that Blue Star Strategies had used Hunter Biden as leverage in trying to cumulate meetings with the State Department.
“Email exchanges between State Department staff members … show that the consulting firm … used Hunter Biden’s name in a request for a State Department meeting,” they wrote.
Blue Star “then mentioned him again during the meeting as part of an effort to improve Burisma’s image in Washington.”

The Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office is involved in the current investigation, according to Politico, the same office investigating Hunter Biden for potential tax violations.

Potential Trouble for Hunter Biden
The potential of another investigation of Hunter Biden was raised at a recent Senate confirmation hearing for David Chipman, President Biden’s nominee for director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Chipman was questioned by Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) on whether or not he would investigate Biden over the possibility he falsified information on a background check to purchase a gun.
A Politico report in March indicated Hunter responded “no” to a question on a Firearms Transaction Record that asks, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”
Biden was discharged from the Navy Reserve after failing a cocaine test and has an open and well-documented history of drug use.
“Lying on the form is a felony,” Politico reported at the time, “though prosecutions for it are exceedingly rare.”
“I will ensure that all violations of law are investigated and referred,” Chipman told Cotton.

As for the new investigation into Blue Star Strategies, David Laufman, who oversaw FARA enforcement at the Justice Department under former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump said, “enforcement of FARA is now considerably more rigorous.”
“The risks of non-compliance with FARA are therefore greater than in years past,” he added.
