Democrat Lectures ‘Squad’ Member Rashida Tlaib For Calling Israel An ‘Apartheid State’ On House Floor

Tlaib Gets Called Out For Anti-Semitism On House Floor During Iron Dome Debate

Far-left Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was taken to task by one of her Democrat colleagues on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday for calling Israel an ‘apartheid state.’

Tlaib’s comments came during a debate over funding for Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.

Far-left Democrats had been successful in getting the $1 billion in funding removed from the current continuing resolution bill, but on Wednesday, Rep. Rosa DeLauro introduced a stand-alone bill for the funding.

In her denunciation of the bill, Tlaib drew fire from her own party.

Not Surprising

The effort to remove funding for the Iron Dome was sponsored by Tlaib and other far-left ‘Squad’ members, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), all of whom have a history when it comes to Israel.

Republicans wasted no time in slamming the move. Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) said he was not surprised, given the openly anti-Semitic sentiments and comparisons of Israel and America to terrorist organizations expressed by some on the other side.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stated, “While Dems capitulate to the anti-Semitic influence of their radical members, Republicans will always stand with Israel.”

But it was the comments made by Tlaib’s fellow Democrats that raised eyebrows.

Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) took to the floor and said:

“I cannot allow one of my colleagues to stand on the floor of the House of Representatives and label the Jewish democratic state of Israel an apartheid state. I reject it.” We can have an opportunity to debate lots of issues on the House floor.

But to falsely characterize the state of Israel is consistent with those, let’s be clear, it’s consistent with those who advocate for the dismantling of the one Jewish state in the world. And when there is no place on the map for one Jewish state, that’s anti-Semitism. And I reject that.”

Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) said of Tlaib’s remarks, “I’m outraged and dismayed that some of my colleagues object to helping Israel defend itself from rocket attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists. America must support our ally Israel.”

Track Record

Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez, and other members of the “Squad” have track records when it comes to Israel.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been chastised several times for questionable tweets.

In one instance, she tweeted, “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” In another, she implied that U.S. support for Israel was mainly about money, or as Omar put it, “all about the Benjamins.”

Tlaib has not been as overtly anti-Semitic as Omar, but it is her insinuations that gain people’s attention. Last month, Talaib made the comment that there were people working “behind the curtain” to stop a “free Palestine,” and are “profiting” off of Americans.

Anti-Defamation League Jonathan Greenblatt responded, “We’ve heard this kind of ugly [antisemitic] dog whistling before, but it’s appalling when it comes from a member of Congress.”

Funding for the Iron Dome Defense system ultimately passed 420-9.
