Democrat Candidate Says Florida Gov DeSantis’ Policies ‘Exactly What Hitler Did To The Jews’

The Democrat running against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to take his seat, Nikki Fried, recently compared him to Adolf Hitler.

When asked if she had gone too far, she doubled down with the Hitler comparisons.

Fried made her remarks during an interview on NPR’s Friday Roundup Podcast.

Fried: ‘I saw the rise of Hitler, I learned those stories’

DeSantis has been the governor who has resisted mass lockdowns and COVID mandates restrictions in his state more than most other governors, which quickly made him popular with conservatives nationwide.

Fried is Florida’s agricultural commissioner and has frequently led Democrats in criticizing DeSantis.

In her Friday NPR interview, the Democrat compared DeSantis to genocidal Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

Co-host Melissa Ross asked Fried to explain a tweet calling DeSantis a “dictator,” with the Democrat responding that the governor’s policies are similar to those passed during “the rise of Hitler.”

Fried said, “Growing up in Miami, you know, and having neighbors that were Cubans — growing up with hearing the stories of so many of our Floridians who have left dictatorships and communism and socialist countries — and coming here to the state of Florida for capitalism, for open opportunities to succeed: [DeSantis] is doing everything possible to take away power from local governments.”

“Taking away people’s abilities to protest,” she added. “Making it harder to vote. Talking about banning books.”

It appears Fried is referring to DeSantis’ policies of banning local governments from imposing vaccine and mask mandates, and pushing back against Critical Race Theory – things she compares to Nazi dictatorship.

“That’s what dictators do,” Fried insisted. “Instead of listening and trying to govern with the people, he is trying to govern over the people, and, you know, that, I’m sorry, I’m a student of history, too.”

“I saw the rise of Hitler, I learned those stories,” Fried said.

Fried On DeSantis’s Policies: ‘That’s exactly what Hitler did to the Jews’

“Are you comparing DeSantis to Hitler?” Ross asked Fried. “In a lot of ways, yes,” Fried responded. “I have studied Hitler and how he got to power, you know, wanting his own militia.”

Cutting in, the NPR host pointed out that many states have a similar militia structure to what DeSantis recently brought back. 

Undeterred, Fried said, “This governor is doing it for the sole purposes of power and doing so to make fear and to instill that, to blame people for what is happening in their lives, blaming certain parts of our society and culture, and that’s exactly what Hitler did to the Jews back during World War II,” Fried added.
