Over the weekend, we reported that Christopher Sign, the reporter who broke the story of Bill Clinton secretly meeting with Loretta Lynch on a tarmac in Phoenix in 2016, had been found dead in an alleged suicide. Now, the coroner has revealed some new details about his death.
Coroner’s Report Comes Out
The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office stated that Sign, 45, was found dead in his Hoover home at 8:14 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
The coroner’s report stated that Sign was found dead by family members, according to The Trussville Tribune. While the cause of death has yet to be released, Hoover Police believe the death was a suicide.
“To know Chris, was to love Chris,” ABC 33/40, where Sign was working before his death, said in a statement on Saturday. “His family was the single most important thing in his life which is why he ended up returning to ABC 33/40 four years ago.”
“Chris was a tremendous leader in our newsroom,” ABC 33/40 continued. “He worked with our reporting staff on a daily basis, but also worked behind the scenes with the I-Team and with news managers on coverage of major events.”
ABC 33/40 Vice President & General Manager Eric Land paid tribute to Sign in a statement of his own, saying, “Our deepest sympathy is shared with Christopher’s loving family and close friends. We have lost a revered colleague who’s [sic] indelible imprint will serve forever as a hallmark of decency, honesty and journalist integrity. We can only hope to carry on his legacy. May his memory be for blessing.”
Sign’s Clinton Tarmac Story
Sign is the reporter who broke the story of Clinton and Lynch secretly meeting on a tarmac back in 2016. It was believed that their discussion was about an ongoing investigation into whether Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State was illegal.

Both Clinton and Lynch tried to portray the conversation as just a friendly chat, but eyebrows were raised when just a few days later, the FBI chose not to bring criminal charges against Hillary, who was in the midst of her presidential campaign, according to Daily Mail.

The investigation was reopened less than two weeks before the 2016 presidential election after emails were found on a laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner, the former congressman and husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Then-FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Congress in late October announcing that the probe had been reopened, and it was later closed just two days before the election. Hillary ended up losing the election to Donald Trump, with some believing that the timing of Comey’s letter to Congress may have cost her the presidency.
