Country singer John Rich of the duo Big & Rich slammed Nike for their controversial decision to turn Colin Kaepernick into the face of their ‘Just Do It’ campaign.
The ad features a closeup of Kaepernick’s face (odd, since it’s his knees that get all the attention) and the words, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
What exactly has he sacrificed? He voluntarily became a free agent and has since turned down offers so he can continue being a martyr for the cause.
Kaepernick has been on the Nike roster since 2011 but has been little used the last few seasons while controversy over his National Anthem protests has swirled.
Gino Fisanotti, Nike’s vice president of brand for North America, said the company views the controversial former quarterback as “one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation.”
Unfortunately for Nike, their poor decisionmaking in backing this anti-American prima donna is going to inspire people to flee the company and their products.

Rich unleashed a Twitter tirade on the company for backing their products with the face and likeness of a man who has repeatedly spit on the flag, spit on the Anthem, on law enforcement, and on America in general.

He also offered a free plug for Reebok, a Nike competitor, in doing so.
Hey @nike if you're gonna make the shoes, make the PIG SOCKS to match. Right? Cmon, people will LOVE that.

The comment is a not-so-subtle dig at Kaepernick’s choice in socks he once wore during a team practice, which depicted police officers as pigs.
Not to mention the shirt he has donned showing support for the late Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro. Should make for an interesting outfit on the catwalk – Castro tee, pig socks, and a nice pair of shiny Nike’s.
Rich also posted an image of a soundman who had just carved up his own socks by cutting out the Nike logo.
Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former marine. Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions. pic.twitter.com/h8kj6RXe7j

The country star, whose biggest hit with the duo is “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” would not relent on his anger with the company.
When you compare police to PIGS, this ends the discussion for me. If you don't find a problem with that, then feel free to unfollow me. The police JUST SHOWED UP at our concert to protect and serve, I'll ask them what they think and get back to you… https://t.co/S7KwlTeZos
— John Rich (@johnrich) September 3, 2018
Others seemed to point out that the soundman had to purchase the socks which somehow disqualifies him from having a revelation and correcting course.
Rich hammered them as well.
The fact that I have to explain that MOST of us own @nike products prior to this “Revelation” that Mr. #PIGSOCKS #ColinKaepernick is now their poster man, let’s me know you’re smoking too much, and are probably living in your parents basement. https://t.co/uhR7aKRCCk

He told followers to be on the lookout for what happens with Nike’s stock after their tone-deaf marketing move. There have already been signs of it getting a bit wobbly right out of the gate.
Their stock, after a quick uptick, was down more than 2 percent in early trading, and the hashtag #NikeBoycott has been trending on Twitter.

Correction:: That should be Reebok, instead of Nike. My bad.
Just like the NFL losing fans, just let the consumers decide what to do. Our grand kids high school (5A) just signed a contract with Nike for the next four years. I understand that the other three SD HSs are included in the deal.

You “dreamers are Americans” guys are really just closet troublemakers. What makes you think we don’t have a problem with other bad things in the world? You don’t seem to realize this conversation is about something other than that.
NIKE just lost MILLIONS of dollars and will never get it back. Somebody in that company is SUPER STUPID

First of all – as to “dreamers are Americans” – that’s a big no. You are not citizens, you are not Americans. Your parents illegally crossed into this country and you were allowed to stay – at least for a while. That doesn’t make you an American anymore than if I went to another country to live and claimed to be whatever they were; I’d still be an American as long as I had my citizenship.
As to Nike – well if they want to put that piece of trash as their icon, it is their company and it is my money and my decision as to where to spend it. My father was military and I would never, ever help the economy of any company that didn’t respect our flag, our anthem, our country. Colin didn’t sacrifice a damned thing – let him join the military and see how he fares – let him sign the blank check to the government that includes giving up his life to protect. What does he do that is so important? He plays ball – BFD. About all his picture is worth to me is as toilet paper.
Don’t forget he has a high maintenance muslim girl friend (or he use to) to keep. She “inspired” him to do the knee thingy.

Krappernick probably threatened to sue Nike if they didn’t give him more “presence”! After all, doesn’t he still need to make payments on his mansion and fleet of luxury cars? Maybe he should do as the other snowflakes and move back into his patents’ basement!!
