CNN traveled to Youngstown, Ohio, to discuss the first year of Donald Trump’s term with a group of supporters who switched parties from Democrat to Republican to vote for the President.
Reporter Martin Savidge sat down with the group and had to assume at least one of them came back from the dark side.
But alas, ’twas not to be.
Every single person Savidge talked to said they were still on the Trump Train.
“We’re one year in,” Savidge asked. “How’s he doing?”
Here was a sampling of the responses:
- “Better than I ever would have dreamt.”
- “He’s doing wonderful.”
Flabberghasted, Savidge could only mutter, “Really?”

The Trump supporters were not disillusioned as CNN may have hoped. They adamantly supported President Trump when he was elected, and support him, even more, one year in.
Savidge couldn’t believe it. When he probed even further he was informed of one hugely important thing for these Ohio voters. And the CNN reporter couldn’t believe that either.
“How big an issue to all of you is immigration?” he asked.
When the interviewees all responded that it was “huge,” Savidge could only respond once more, “Really?”

One of the voters even took a subtle shot at CNN and the mainstream media during the segment. Savidge asked the man why he doesn’t get outraged at the President’s mean tweets.
“Because if all he had to rely on was what people say about him, oh, my God, I might not like the guy,” he said, a clear shot at how the media has portrayed President Trump. “But I love the guy. I love the job he’s doing.”
Driving the final nail in the narrative was a minority student, who argued that the President is unfairly portrayed as a racist.
“He was just the nicest person,” she said discussing a meeting with Trump at a rally. “And honestly, if he was a racist as everyone paints him out to be, he could have just walked right past me and not even said a word.”
Savidge made one final effort to get the panel of Trump supporters to say they had some regrets.
“I wanted to find out if there was any buyer’s remorse on the part of any of those voters I was talking to so I asked them, I said, ‘If you could do it over, would you vote the same way?'” he asked. “Every one of them said they would.”
“On top of that, they said, they will,” he added. “And I asked, ‘What does that mean?’ And they said they’re all gonna vote again in 2020 for Donald Trump.”
I bet if Cory Booker saw this segment he probably shed some more tears of rage. We’re almost certain the staff at CNN did.
