Not sure how one links Israel to Alabama, but I’ll be darned if MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and Chris Matthews didn’t somehow manage to do it.
Yes, the pair believes that the Trump Administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is somehow a plot to get Roy Moore elected to the Senate in Alabama.
That is a Grand Canyon-sized leap of logic.
“This was timed because of the waiver, but they wanted to get this out before Alabama,” Mitchell opined in a discussion with Matthews. “There is a large evangelical vote down there.”
“One has to assume it has a lot to do with domestic politics. Namely Alabama. This is an enormously powerful incentive,” she said.
“It is what the evangelicals, especially down in Alabama and other parts of the country, the religious right wanted to hear.”
Hmm … So let me get this straight – President Trump wanted Roy Moore to win in Alabama so badly that he … fulfilled a promise to our ally Israel in a move that would impact the Middle East?
That’s just crazy enough to … be really, really crazy.

Matthews took the Looney Tune show a step further saying, “Don’t think this isn’t related to Alabama next week.”
“It is related,” he insisted. “It is the Christian evangelicals down there with their crazy ideas about Israel, which is, I don’t know, mythical.”
‘Crazy Christian evangelicals with mythical ideas,’ eh Chris? With a statement like that, one could argue that your analysis is a secret ploy to help get Moore elected, since you probably just earned him more votes by insulting the people of Alabama. Congratulations!

President Trump tossed cold water on the conspiracy theorists at MSNBC, explaining that the move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is “nothing more” than a “recognition of reality.”
“Mr. Trump called his decision on Wednesday ‘a recognition of reality,’ and he’s right,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote.
“Congress recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 1995 in a bill President Clinton declined to veto,” they explained. “Other Presidents have agreed in principle, and even campaigned on it, but in office they used a waiver to put off any formal recognition or move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.”
“The difference is that Mr. Trump apparently meant what he said as a candidate.”
For him to have campaigned on this over a year ago in an effort to help get Moore elected, Trump truly would have been engaging in a serious level of 4D chess. Moore announced his candidacy for Senate in April of this year. Trump on the other hand, vowed to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel after a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in September of 2016.
The President is always ten steps ahead of the media, but to think he could have foreseen the future that far out is simply amazing.
