The world is still in shock after the former “Friends” star Matthew Perry was found dead in his hot tub on Saturday at the age of 54. Now, new details have emerged about his sudden death.

Perry Found Dead At 54

NBC News reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has announced that Perry’s cause of death has been “deferred” with further investigation being requested before a conclusion is made. The findings of this investigation likely won’t be released to the public for several weeks.

Perry reportedly played pickleball for two hours on Saturday morning and was in good spirits after the game, according to TMZ. Later that day, he was found unresponsive at his California home in his jacuzzi by his assistant, who immediately called 911. Police rushed to the scene and found Perry dead in an apparent drowning in the hot tub.

Though Perry had been open about his issues with drugs in the past, no illegal drugs were found at his home.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” Perry’s family told People Magazine. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.”

“You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” they added.

Tributes To Perry From ‘Friends’ World

Perry was best known for playing Chandler Bing on the beloved sitcom “Friends” from 1994-2004. Warner Bros., which produced “Friends,” released a statement honoring Perry after his death.

“We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry,” the statement read. “Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family.”

“The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many,” it continued. “This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”

Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin Bright, the co-creators and the executive producer, respectively, of “Friends,” told CBS News that they “are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened” by Perry’s death.

“We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing,” they said. “It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives.”

“He was a brilliant talent,” they continued. “It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us. We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well.”

Perry’s ‘Friends’ Reunion

In 2021, Perry reunited with his former “Friends” co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for an emotional reunion special on HBO Max.

“The best way that I can describe it is after the show was over, at a party or any kind of social gathering, if one of us bumped into each other, that was it,” Perry said at the time. “That was the end of the night. You just sat with the person all night long and that was it.”

“You apologized to the people you were with, but they had to understand you had met somebody special to you and you were going to talk to that person for the rest of the night,” he continued. “And that’s the way it worked.”

Rest in peace, Matthew Perry.
