The State of California has once again proven itself to be a great place to live – just not legally.
Last year, California lawmakers proposed a $1 billion universal healthcare bill for their State – to cover illegal aliens. And only illegal aliens.
Luckily for the State’s taxpayers, that proposal didn’t end up going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean their lawmakers aren’t actively looking for new ways to fleece them. According to a report from Western Journalism:
The University of California system voted in March to raise tuition for out-of-state students by nearly $1,000, a hike that will not apply to illegal alien students. The system’s board of regents approved the proposal to increase out-of-state tuition by $978 by a 12-3 vote, The College Fix reported, but California law allows illegal alien students to evade this charge by enrolling as in-state students.
So, out-of-State students have to pay more, but not out-of-country students? An odd set of priorities for sure.
Since it’s Californian taxpayers subsidizing the University of California system, it’s them who ultimately bear the brunt of illegals paying reduced tuition. California Assembly Bill 540 mandates that illegal alien students can obtain in-state tuition if they attend high school in the state for a minimum of three years and earn a California high school diploma.
Illegal aliens can qualify for reduced tuition – but only if California taxpayers have funded at least 3 years of their high school education at an average cost of $9,000 per illegal per year.
Such is common in California, which now officially has the designation of being a “sanctuary state.” I suppose the other 49 states can thank them because the majority of our nation’s illegals reside in California, and thus, it’s California bearing the costs of illegal immigration. One estimate puts the annual burden of accommodating illegals at $23 billion for California. In other words, the annual cost of illegal immigration in California alone is large enough to burn through the entire net worth of PayPal/Tesla/SpaceX/SolarCity founder Elon Musk…. in under a year.
How is it that lawmakers in the state suffering most from illegal immigration are intent on doing the least about it? They must really need those votes!
