The pop singer Britney Spears dropped a bomb in her upcoming memoir “The Woman In Me,” which hits stores a week from today, when she admitted to having an abortion over twenty years ago during her time dating her fellow star Justin Timberlake.

Spears Admits To Getting Abortion

Spears, 41, blamed Timberlake for her decision to get an abortion, claiming that he pressured her into it because he was not ready to become a father.

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” Spears wrote, according to People Magazine. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”

“I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby,” she continued. “I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

Spears Still Regrets Abortion

Spears regrets getting the abortion to this day.

“To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life,” she admitted.

Spears and Timberlake dated from 1999 until they split in 2002. She would go on to have two sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17. Meanwhile, Timberlake also went on to have two sons with his actress wife Jessica Biel, who he is still married to.

A source close to Timberlake told Page Six that the singer has been “concerned” about what Spears will write about him in her memoir.

“It’s eating at him,” one insider said, with another source claiming that the book is “not a takedown” of anyone in particular.

Spears’ Memoir

Spears’ memoir, which comes out on October 24, promises to reveal “for the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from Gallery Books that goes on to say that the book “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”

NBC News reported that the title of Spears memoir, “Woman In Me,” is a reference to the “soul-crushing” 13-year conservatorship under her father James “Jamie” Spears, which she says “stripped her of her womanhood.”

“The woman in me was pushed down for a long time,” Spears wrote. “They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time.”

Spears was in this conservatorship from 2008 until it was terminated in 2021.

While nobody will know for sure until the book actually comes out, it seems that Spears may be exposing the grim reality of abortion, given how open she appears to be about regretting it all these years later. Though we don’t support Spears getting an abortion, we’ll applaud her if she uses her story to try and encourage other young women not to do the same thing.
