We now know the real reason that Senate Democrats wanted Al Franken to resign: They want leverage.

As we reported yesterday, it was a bit suspicious to see how coordinated the calls were by Senate Democrats for Franken’s resignation, and it turns out there was a reason why. Richard Painter, vice president of left-wing watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), called on Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton to leverage Franken’s pending resignation into forcing Alabama Republicans to disavow GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, and re-appoint Franken to his own seat if Moore wins.

Some other Democrats have used the opportunity to call on President Donald Trump to resign, given that he too had allegations of harassment made against him (which he denies). Franken even brought that up in his resignation speech.

That plan didn’t work, clearly, and it’s unclear why they ever thought it would.

Meanwhile, another man caught up in the tidal wave of sexual-harassment accusations who also maintains his innocence is coming forward to defend President Trump. According to BizPacReview,

The sexual assault claims against President Trump have taken a shocking turn now that he has an unexpected defender: Bill O’Reilly.

In an appearance on Glenn Beck’s radio program, the former Fox News host made a sensational claim. According to O’Reilly, his team of investigators discovered a tape in which a lawyer offers a woman $200,000 to “accuse Donald Trump of untoward behavior.”

Here’s what he says: “It exists. We have urged the person who has the tape to hand it over to the U.S. attorney, because my investigative team believes there are three separate crimes on the audio tape.”

O’Reilly then answered if he’ll release the tape himself. Here’s what he said: “I may have to go to the U.S. attorney myself. I don’t want to have to do that and inject myself into the story, but I had my lawyer listen to the tape. … There are at least three crimes on the tape. So as a citizen, I may have to do this.”

O’Reilly then said that the President is aware of the tape’s existence.

The White House has not yet commented on the tape, but is likely to pounce on the opportunity if verified.
