After the tax-fraud conviction of President Donald Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort and the plea deal with former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, top Democratic lawmakers, tv pundits, and #NeverTrumpers are calling for a delay of the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
History will not look kindly on rushing through a Supreme Court nominee chosen by a president facing significant legal liability and seeking to obstruct a criminal investigation of his wrongdoing. Brett Kavanaugh's nomination should NOT be considered now.

As of yesterday, the President is now the equivalent of an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal act. Kavanaugh must not be considered until the Mueller investigation is complete. To do otherwise would taint the legitimacy of the Supreme Court.

This President is an unindicted co-conspirator in a felony criminal investigation and should not have the ability to appoint someone to a lifetime position on the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh's hearing should be delayed until the investigation is resolved. pic.twitter.com/XosxY9DQ9q

Kavanaugh hearing must be immediately postponed so Judiciary Committee can continue vital investigation of Trump campaign criminality & obstruction of justice.

Many top Democrats, including Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), are using the ongoing Mueller investigation as an excuse for why they won’t even meet with Judge Kavanaugh. How convenient:

I will not meet with Judge Kavanaugh. Here are my reasons why: pic.twitter.com/dBAlC5qJGO

Of course, the same Senators who were refusing to meet Kavanaugh wouldn’t vote for his confirmation anyway. And despite the massive paper trail Kavanaugh has from the Bush White House and the Clinton-Lewinsky investigation, Democrat researchers just haven’t been able to find that one “smoking gun” to derail the nomination. Therefore, calling for a delay because of investigations involving President Trump is their final hope.
As the Heritage Foundation reminds us, Trump-haters don’t seem to remember that former President Bill Clinton nominated now-Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after the vacancy created by Justice Byron White in 1993. Clinton was under serious criminal investigation, and yet her confirmation was almost unanimous, with a vote of 96-3. That vote happened just 42 days after her nomination.
The same happened when Justice Harry Blackmun retired in 1994 when Clinton nominated Justice Stephen Bryer. He was confirmed with an 87-9 vote, and there were no delays to his hearing.
Democrats’ only criticism thus far of Kavauangh has been how he responsibly paid off his credit card after buying expensive season tickets to the Washington Nationals baseball team. It’s driving the left crazy that Trump nominated a highly qualified and experienced judge without enough dirt to stop him, so they are desperate for an excuse.
