Earlier this month, President Joe Biden showed up at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to announce spending $900 million to build about 500,000 charging stations across dozens of states, CBS News reported.
The first tranche of $900 million — out of $5 billion in infrastructure money over five years — will be used to build electric vehicle chargers in 35 states.
The chargers will be found across 53,000 miles of highway with the goal of promoting electric vehicle use.
“The great American road trip is going to be fully electrified,” Bident said to a crowd of autoworkers and supporters. “Whether you’re driving coast to coast along I-10, or on I-75 here in Michigan, charging stations will be up and as easy to find as gas stations are now.”

Carmakers have ramped up efforts to make more electric vehicles — in April, Ford started building electric pickup trucks at a new Michigan factory and said last September it would build the next generation of electric pickups at a plant in Tennessee, CBS News reported.
General Motors is using an old factory in Detroit to make electric Hummers and pickups, and it announced EV assembly plants in Lansing, Michigan; Spring Hill, Tennessee; and Orion Township, Michigan.

They’re also making batteries — a government loan will help GM build its battery factories, while a GM battery plant in Warren, Ohio, has already started manufacturing.
Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, said in May that it would build another joint venture battery factory in Indiana, and it has announced a battery plant in Canada, CBS News reported.
None of this addresses the issue of price: Most EVs are more expensive than gas powered vehicles, with the average price recently hitting $66,000, whereas gasoline-powered cars average $48,043.
While various tax credits are available for buyers of EVs, the price is still staggering. For people struggling to pay their bills amid high inflation, the price puts EVs completely out of reach.

If we could wave a magic wand and turn every U.S. passenger car into an EV, global greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) would be reduced by a mere 0.9%. Try the math for yourself: The U.S. produces 15% of the world’s GHGs, transportation accounts for 27% of those emissions, and 57% of transportation emissions come from passenger cars and light duty trucks. That means if every car was an EV with batteries charged from a non-carbon emitting source, GHGs would be reduced by 2.3%. Only 39% of U.S electricity, however, comes from non-carbon emitting sources. Therefore, realistically, if every car in the U.S. was an EV, carbon in the world’s atmosphere would be reduced by less than 1%.

I wonder if the government ever spent taxpayer money for gas stations?
So the Democrats can easily find 5 billion for useless chargers but can’t find 5 Billion to build a wall for our security. Pelosi, the holder of the government purse strings said they don’t have one dime to build a wall for our security. Did the same thing on January 6th. Only after she created the quagmire all of a sudden she had to make a big showing of security. Suddenly security was everything and they brought in National guard and barriers and razor wire to protect them while they leave the rest of American citizens unsecured.
Every Time, EVERY TIME, the gov’t involves itself in what should be capitalistic endeavors, it goes bad.
But, friends get paid, virtue signaling is extolled, and gov’t fulfills its goal of solidifying its power.

Please include the $20,000 for a new battery after only 8 years. Just about all gas fueled cars can go almost 14 years on average with normal maintenance. Total Boondoggle..
Can you imagine if Florida was full of EVs trying to evacuate from the hurricane? They’d all run out of juice a few miles down the road while sitting in traffic.

How much will it cost to replace the battery when it dies
People interested in EV’s should include the warranty cost for batteries. While FastCharging systems are being touted to reduce the wait time, the consumer must realize that this method of charging will reduce the battery life and the warranty time. This is not being made clear by those pushing these systems.
