Actress Bette Midler faced a significant amount of backlash following a tweet in which she mocked First Lady Melania Trump’s English speaking accent.

Mrs. Trump’s appearance at the Republican National Convention (RNC) was lauded by both sides of the political media spectrum, as she addressed the COVID pandemic and called on the nation to unify and try to understand each other.

She offered sympathy and prayers for those who lost loved ones during the crisis and promised the President “will not rest” until the nation overcomes this horrible crisis.

“I urge people to come together in a civil manner,” the First Lady said regarding violence in the streets. “Instead of tearing things down, let’s reflect on our mistakes … and look to a way forward.”

Xenophobe Bette Midler

Melania’s message of unity and compassion were apparently too much for Midler to bear, as she leveled her with mockery of her accent and a claim that she is an “illegal alien.”

“Oh, God,” the marginally talented actress wrote mid-speech. “She still can’t speak English.”

Clearly unable to sense the weapons-grade level of xenophobia dripping from that tweet, Midler doubled down.

“#beBest is back! A UGE bore! She can speak several words in a few languages,” she snidely tweeted. “Get that illegal alien off the stage!”

Wow. Can you imagine if a Republican had said this about ANYBODY with an accent, much less the First Lady of the United States of America?

What a disgrace.

Midler’s comments are reminiscent of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who mocked Mrs. Trump by using a fake European accent. Or the time comedian Chelsea Handler, shortly after President Trump’s inauguration, mocked Melania for “barely speaking English.”

Conservatives on social media weren’t about to let Midler get away with her disgusting attacks on Melania Trump. Many pointed out that the First Lady speaks several languages.

“Who knew xenophobia was the wind beneath your wings!” joked Fox Business Network host, Kennedy.

Conservative actor James Woods replied, “The party of diversity mocks an American for her accent…”

Perhaps syndicated take radio host Dana Loesch delivered the best reply:

Of course, liberals are promoting xenophobia. It’s who they are. From top to bottom.

They are, after all, trying to put this guy in the White House.

This isn’t the first time Midler has attacked Melania with unhinged rants and it likely won’t be the last time.

In 2018, she implied a modeling stint in an airplane with Mrs. Trump would require an “insane” dry-cleaning bill.

Yes, they’re bigots, but what really gets to somebody like Bette Midler is this simple fact: Melania is a strong, powerful woman who doesn’t give a rip what you think about her.
