On Friday, far-left Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed legendary Democrat strategist James Carville for blaming Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe’s defeat by Republican Glenn Youngkin on rampant “wokeness” within the Democrat Party.
Carville has been beating that drum for some time now, painting Democrats as out-of-touch urbanites.
AOC, one of the best examples of what Carville is talking about it, didn’t take too kindly to that analysis, arguing that Virginia Democrats weren’t far-left enough.
AOC tweeted, “Like the average audience for people seriously using the word ‘woke’ in a 2021 political discussion are James Carville and Fox News pundits so that should tell you all you need to know.”

Carville On Democrats: ‘They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that’
In a Wednesday PBS interview, Carville said that “wokeness” was to blame for McAuliffe’s loss to Youngkin.
“What went wrong is just stupid wokeness,” Carville said. “Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools. I mean that — people see that.”

“It’s just really — has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats,” Carville went on. “Some of these people need to go to a ‘woke’ detox center or something.”
Carville continued, “They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”
For her part, AOC argued that her words were taken out of context.
“How can news outlets even attribute words to me I didn’t say?” she tweeted. “I said there are limits to trying to mobilize a campaign with a 100% moderate strategy without mobilizing the base. Said nothing [about] ‘wokeness’ which is a term almost exclusively used by older people these days btw.”

AOC Claims Only Older People Say ‘Woke’
Ocasio-Cortez also tweeted, “And before people disingenuously complain ‘woke’ is denigrating to older people, it’s actually pundits like Carville using terms like ‘woke’ to insult voters under 45 that’s denigrating.”

Don’t wonder why youth turnout falls when Dems talk about them like this. We need everyone.
